Bugger all to do with biking but had to tell someone. I’ve been battling with HMRC for nearly 3 years over £55k of bullshit tax I never owed. Just heard I’ve finally won - £55k wiped.
I’m soooo frickin happy right now.
Now I have to emigrate because they aren’t gonna enjoy losing that case - and I’m sure they will find reasons to audit me to death…
It’s almost as good. I had to put the money to one sidebecause I they were going through the courts for the whole debt - so that “justin case” money is now “free” money. The wife wants a used Porsche to address hermidlife crisis – and the Porsche is a lot cheaper than the toyboy leading todivorce option…
Nice one Very slightly related, how would one go about appealing import tax? No where near the scale of £55k, but I got charged for tickets I bought, to be used in the US, posted to me here. That can’t be right can it?
I had a similar thing recently. I had a share document sent to me via a Fedex envelope. Fedex later sent me a bill for tax they say they paid on the document - I raised it with Fedex and they dropped the charge immediately because there should not have been any tax charged on a document and the envelope had been incorrectly classed as a package.
But on second thoughts given that the event was abroad I would find the VAT even questionable - worth speaking to HMRC if that is who charged you the duty.
Am just about to get my 2010/2011 return finalised - might have to stay in Nigeria for ever if it’s too big  Plus expecting a fine for late submission.
