McGuinness signs for Norton for TT 2018

The rumours were all true after all.

After weeks of speculation and rumour, today it has been confirmed that John McGuinness will race for Norton at the 2018 Isle of Man TT.

The 23-time TT winner has signed a deal with the British marque that will see him return to the mountain course for the first time since breaking his tibia and fibular in a horrific crash at the North West 200 last year.

To be fit to race a year after breaking his back and missing a chunk of leg, that’s quite something.

So the Norton boss says its not about results and McGuinness wants to spray champagne. Is a Norton TT win too much to ask?

It’s doable, all kinds of machinery has won there and the riders always say it’s who beats the track at the end of the day. The BMW S1000RR didn’t get any podiums I can remember until Micky D put it on the top step but on the road it was considered a class leader for a long time. No reason Mcpint can’t take it there.

And even if he doesn’t, it’ll still sound the best.

It’s a big ask. Interesting read here https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/racing/isle-of-man-tt/news/mcguinness-to-ride-hislops-92-norton-

Interesting in that he had his foot in the door perhaps. I suspect that the Norton Company didn’t have anything to do with that though and the agreement was made with the bike’s owner.
