A couple of years ago I took a slide on the fazer, it bent the nose cone slightly off. I have been told that the metal supporting the nose is rather brittle, so if you try to bend it back you’ll break it - not sure how true this is but I’ve not put it to test…yet.
The nose cone of the fairings is only slightly off but it’s really off-putting at times, especially turning to the right (nose is bent slightly to the left). It’s barely noticeable but I certainly notice it.
I was wondering, how much of an effort is it to make bike naked? I’ve seen it done plenty of times but it’s something that people tend to do themselves in as a bit of a project rather than pay someone else to do it. Unfortunately I suffer from a condition called “botch-it-ism” (not to be confused with Botulism), whereby I’ll probably screw it up if I try myself. I gather I’ll need to change the speedos, re-wire some of the electrics? (indicators and lights)
Is there a service that offers this or is it just a case of having to follow guides and do it yourself (what with labour times and other gubbins that don’t make it worth while for a mechanic and such).
Or should I just kick off the fairings and gaffer-tape it all back on in a post-apocalyptic style?
if you like it faired cant your buy a new bracket for the front end? would be easier and probably cheaper if you want to make it naked youll need to tidy up the wiring.
also youll need to get a new headlight a twin or a standard round one with the brackets to bolt it onto the forks, with the clocks i was told if you remove them they restrict the bike or something so not sure but im sure you can keep them there and get a small tinted windsheield so it looks good =]
Interesting point. I wonder what exactly is damaged. The mechanic who pointed it out to me just said along the lines of “it’ll cost loads, don’t bother”. I guess if I break it it’ll make the whole nose cone jiggle about.
my dad has a 2003 fazer fox eye so not sure if the bracket is the same but the part that is bent will more then likely be the part marked out in red, now that should just be replaceable myself i would take the fairing and headlight/clocks off and look how far the bracket is bent then take the bracket off and bend it back slightly i cant see it braking from a small bend back to shape.
i found this on ebay this should set it straght i havent looked at anymore first one i came across so there might be cheaper ones.
i’ve done the same thing on my fz6, the bracket will bend no issue there but how do you line it up?? mines is slightly off and off putting when I ride.
feels like my handle bars are no straight.
