MAG meet ACE Sunday 12:00

Anyone else going?

I’m sure Paddy won’t mind me posting this here, especially if more of us join MAG

Subject: New London MAG meeting at The ACE cafe Sunday 15th April. Meet the Chairman of TfL
Date: Wed, 11 Apr 2012 15:43:55 +0100
From: Paddy Tyson <[email protected]>

I thought you’d like to know that there is a new MAG group starting in London.

MAG is continuing its resurgence, in membership, the growth of local groups and in political successes at all levels of government. For example: Birmingham, Bedford and most recently TfL in London now Westminster City Council confirming that bikes will be permitted to use Bus Lanes, something MAG has been demanding for years and which councils are adopting when we pressure them.
In Westminster, MAG gave evidence to the Transport Select Committee about the DSA fiasco with the new bike test. The Transport Minister demanded a ministerial review into the test and asked MAG to be central to that review, which we are. Trials are now under way on new manoeuvres. The Riders Are Voters (RAV) campaign is proving very effective at letting candidates in all elections know what matters to riders and to the bike industry. More info at http://www.ridersarevoters.orgMAG’s Get a Grip! campaign for non-slip manhole covers and consistent road surfaces is gathering momentum too and over 10 councils have now agreed to trial covers with the same grip levels as the surrounding road. Our goal is to make shiny metal manhole covers a thing of the past.
There are new threats on the horizon, like compulsory day-glo clothing and ABS, as well as new anti-tampering rules from Europe, but after the September 25th protest we are making great strides against them too, and now have the support of the British Government.

On the ground, MAG is growing as a social force, with new groups starting in Devon, Derby, Herts and Somerset among others, so it is great news that London, the heart of national decision making, is joining the list.
The days are growing longer, many people have said they’d like somewhere to meet and chat about bikes and issues relating to them.

Now that the national motorcycle press is acknowledging MAG’s importance and the Minister for Roads, Mike Penning MP has joined other MPs as a full MAG member, the relevance of a local group has never been greater.

I do hope you can find the time to come along on Sunday 15th April from 12.00 - 2pm to the The Ace Cafe, Park Royal, on the A406 North Circular. The ACE are Corporate MAG members and we are grateful for their support with relaunching MAG.

Call Simon on 07595 966112 for more information about this and further planned meetings.

The Chairman of TfL is going to be there to hear your concerns about how motorcycles should be included in London’s Transport policy, so come along and tell him!

I look forward to meeting you and your support is invaluable to keep MAG active and biking alive.
