I got my MAG renewal through the post the other day, and I can’t decide to renew or not.
I joined MAG last year because I think it’s important that there’s group representing bikers politically.
However, although I think MAG does some good work, whenever I read the magazine I get upset. The editing is really poor, and with a clearly right-wing editor in charge, it often reads like UKIP or BNP propaganda.
Without getting into political discussions, the editor can support whichever party he likes, and it shouldn’t impact my decision on whether to join a motorcycle action group, but that’s precisely the point. I don’t like to be associated with an organisation that will be perceived by many in a way I don’t approve of.
The political side aside, I think they sometimes waste their time (and our money) on what I think are un-important things. Like the time they choose to dedicate 2 pages of the magazine slagging of, what I though was a good campaign, raising awareness of protective clothing for young scooter riders.
So I’m in 2 minds. I think it’s important to support a motorcycle lobby group, but I don’t like MAG anymore.
Thoughts? Any other groups worth considering?
