Lost Top Box!!! Anyone seen it?!? A40 eastbound

On Wednesday morning about half 9 in the morning, my mate was riding to work along the A40 into London.

Some point along the way his top box became detached from the bike!?!

He only noticed it was gone at the end of his journey…

I don’t suppose anyone has seen a topbox on the side of the road per chance?? It’s a 55l Givi Maxi topbox, the new looking ones, mostly black with a bit of silver and red where the aux brake lights are.

He has a suspicion it came off somewhere on the a40 heading eastbound, somewhere between gypsy corner (where home base is at the top of askew road).
He then took the turn off slip road just before you hit the raised section - the turn off for scrubs lane and wood lane.

I know it’s very unlikely, bit if anyone heard or saw anything please get in touch!

He’s reported the incident to the police.

Thanks!

Nope not seen it

Wow man 55l box, that must’ve made a racket! Did it break from the bracket or just wasn’t locked properly?

no havent seen it.

Thanks all - we have no idea how it came off. The base plate shows no damage, so it must have been a malfunction with the lock mechanism on the box…

I take the same route every day so I’ll keep my eyes open…

What we’re dreading is that it fell off and went crashing through someone’s windscreen or bounced off their bonnet causing some damage…

Inside the box is a bunch of his business cards though so if anyone gets into it they should be able to get in touch with him, and the police are aware of it.

Quite a scary thought, imagine being behind a bike doing 40mph+ when the top box comes flying off the back of it!

If you do have a top box, please check it’s attached properly!

This happened to me on my Varadero 125. I couldn’t believe it! I just saw a top box sliding past me and I thought, ‘Jeez, that looks well familiar’.

Not unknown behaviour for Givi it seems:

EHRM…yes i think someone has some experience in that field…Art, any comment?

Someone call

My top box took off, speed bump taken too quick and it ended up on the back seat. Easy fix for me was to add an extra bracket and bolt the box through the plate and rear carrier. It’s not so quick to remove the box but it’s always there when I want it. The additional brackets are secured by means of M6 pan head bolts and wing nuts so less than a minute to remove

I seem to remember a bouncing pannier of a rather large triumph on a ride bouncing like a basketball on the road. Was bouncing so wildly it took me a while to realise it wasn’t a random ball but a pannier!

I’ve had a rather large spanner (20mm) leave the comfort of my Kriega bag and fly across the path of Claire!

how about the time on the way to the TT when your bar end came out and went bouncing down the road?

oh yeah, I forgot about that one…

Serrisan, how strange my Father in law lost a bar end on route to the TT as well. Almost took out his Brother who was following behind.

Why was his top box full of business cards.

Are you sure it wasn’t airborne leaflet propaganda.

Does he work in car bodywork repairs.

or is he a no-win-no-fee Personal Injury Lawyer?

So one would assume that top boxes, could be used as weapons of mass destruction.

Do they come with eject button as well?

Top box users should have a sticker on the back of it. Beware of flying top box!

Are they also made in North Korea? This could explain a lot

Luke…? :stuck_out_tongue:

Nah, only joking… Mian’s not my brother
