My K5 is being written off and I will only be getting the new bike aorund Nov/Dec (if I’m lucky). So I thought I might give a supermoto a go. I’m looking for something no more than £2500 and that I will be able to sell for more or less what I paid for it when the new bike arrives. I might be willing to pay more for a tricked one if I am likely to get my money back when I sell it. Oh, and I will only be using it on road.
Anyone got any suggestions, or know of a bike for sale?
Check out supermoto mags new web site and the dreaded fleabay. Also may be worth you buying the lates supermoto mag (WH Smiths)etc. Someone is also selling one on VD but dont know price.
If you could wheelie the K5 then you will have no probs. Unfortunately it is a bit of a myth that when you get a moto you become able to wheelie, and back it in.
I could never wheelie very well anyway, but I found it easier on my old CBR600 than my WR400
I hope you like the XT and weren’t expecting a ‘not for the faint hearted’ type ride. After a good sportsbike almost any supermoto will feel gutless and wheezy (i.e my WR makes 45 bhp hardly WSB power)
Never had a problem going from superbike to drz (not a supermoto really, I know), except on the drz I would use the clutch in second to bring it up at low revs, and let it right out. Gone are those days now though…
The last thing that I could wheelie at will was a Mongoose (BMX) about 20 years ago. The problem with the K5 is that it comes up too quickly in 1st, and in 2nd I would be learning to wheelie at 90mph, which scared me… I think the XT will be much easier to learn on. It’s certainly easier to do stoppies on it than any other bikes that I’ve owned.
As far as it feeling wheezy is concerned, I’m not really finding that too much of a problem. The whole riding experience is so different to a sportsbike that in my mind I don’t even compare the two. I took it out on a bumpy B-road yesterday and loved it! Down the same road, the Gix would have had me in a hedge at half the speed.
Yup Tards live to be ridden on B-roads, A-roads are a waste of its talents. The B158 which is Gods own 11 miles of tarmac was heavenly on the SMC. I can go quicker in places on the Z, but in others where the SMC was utterly scalpel like the Z tries to throw me out of the seat
Get yourself up to the Lavers just past Epping and find Supermoto nirvana If you want I’ll let you know when the next guided tour is taking place
