Looking for a sports tourer - recommendations?

You can’t go wrong with a Kawasaki ZZR1100D. An absolute gem. Check out the MCN review or ask anyone who has owned one.

Obviously, I am in no way prejudiced, presently only owning two of them…

I suppose if you cannot find a good ZZR then you might consider the Blackbird or the Sprint ST . . . ahem! both being cracking bikes, too. ** **

Thanks - I didn’t even think of the Kawasaki. Its name makes me think it’s going to screech and crash around the corner and end up looking like an upside down turkey! Totally irrational I know…

I think having a Honda, I’m not so excited about going for another one. I like the idea of a European tourer. At the moment, the Sprint is coming out on tops. The Japanese bikes are way popular I know…

**if you’re after something a little smaller, the suzuki GSX650F is a good middleweight option, won Sports tourer awards last year, bargain cheap and mine got me from Essex to Cardiff on a tank(19l) going through London. and then promptly ground off the footpegs on the coast roads while I was there.

I was a bit surprised to read your post…from what I remembered, the GSX600F was fugly as hell! :w00t:
Then I looked it up and found this:

What a pretty bike!

I found a review for it too. The comment below made me smile - looks like someone with a CBR traded theirs in for a GSX650F!

And MCN’s take:

It looks really good for its price!

SV1000S? can do an awful lot on one, cheap, and good fun and reliable:)

i like aprillia falco’s too;)

The SVs are a frickin’ pile of zhit!!! Excuse my French

I had a 650 and it was utterly unreliable. Battery failed so many times. Spark plugs gummed. Brakes seized after winter. The bike shook off parts after 10,000 miles. The whole undercarriage rusted over one winter alone. It was enough to make me give up with Suzuki and buy Honda!!

Don’t know if their quality has improved. The SVs are budget bikes. The maintenance and services weren’t so good when I calculate the number of times I dragged mine back to the garage for fixing. It really put me off Suzuki. Honda … are very reliable though!

i had a K4 650S, never had any real problems with it, they aree budget yeah definetly, but great biek for what they are, suzukis never have had a good finish, you have to look after them;) my battery never failed in over a year, infact i put 12,000 miles on my 650 with no problems and so far have covered nearly 6000 on my 1000S-wich is now on 34,000 odd miles:D

you must have had a bad one, either that or you dont do matainence:D

They’re all bad…!

And I’m so transparent too. I don’t do maintenance and ride in everything except black ice!

if you say so…

Well it doesn’t matter what I say…!

I don’t want a SV!!

+1 for the Blackbird… I’m never giving mine up… “From my Cold, Dead Hands!!!”

what about a fazer thou,i loved mine til it got killed.its comfy, good 2 up, 180 on a tank ,build pretty good ,r1 brakes and the protections good up to 120 mph,and the motors a peach.suspenion was bit soft for me but sorted that, handles very well, but above its fun on the road:D

I tour 2 up on the Busa :smooooth:

Who needs luggage? :stuck_out_tongue:

 sorry thought you wanted a bike that did the business not an ornament :stuck_out_tongue:
anyway I’m off to wax my 'tache

This is my idea of a sport tourer. Loads of space and power. Handles well and does 50mpg if you poodle around, (yeh right!).:hehe: Only down side is that it’s a metre wide, makes filtering tricky!

I keep seeing this with Blackbirds. Mostly not considered as a sports tourer when people are looking, but those that have them can’t see themselves ever wanting another bike.

What?

I beg to differ http://www.journeytorussia.co.uk

and I was getting 200 miles to a tank (on motorways) and I had more luggage than you could possible imagine.:satisfied:

nice but it is more in the hyper tourer bracket along with busas, blackbirds and (the cream) the K1300s.

200 miles is very good for a VFR!

Any problems with rust in the snow? Reliability?

A metre wide bike is out of the question for me. Needs to be filter friendly! Otherwise I really might as well get a fokkin Fiesta!!

It’s just so…so sexy in a fat bulbous pre-raphaelite kind of way. None of that anorexic shitz from modern sports bikes nowadays

Yet another for the blackbird, good for touring dont matter if you fully loaded with luggage n pillion or if your solo out playing, jack of all trades cant see me getting rid of mine in a hurry, or you could try a 'busa yet another good bike and both with put smile on ya face when you hit the open road, just watch out for plodski :D:D
