I would love to do something like that too soon, what bike you doing it on?

We rode to Rome easy peasy. Your route sounds a bit straight. We went via the Black Forest, Switerland, Italian Lakes, Venice. Returned via Pisa, Livorno, South of France. Main tip: Take waterproofs

best avoid paris at all cost, unless you really want to see it.

going through lyon and cross the alps at the lowest point, which i think is the frejus tunnel.

Take a paper map. Use a satnav for getting to a specific hotel an hour from the end of the day.

+1

Naked CBF600. (thats the NUTS part)
Limiting myself to honda pannier set, top box and a small backpack.
This may or may not include a small tent and sleeping bag as I have friends in paris, zurich, lugano, milan and rome.
Three to four days each way.

Apparently ALL roads lead there so I’ve always been told so no need for map or satnav … !

didnt get to do venice or the black forest, but switzerland and the gotard pass was excellent

i installed a dual usb charger before i left and was able to charge phone and sat nav on the go.

went back roads from dijon through geneva and through the mont blanc tunnel, coming out the other side in italy was really good.

Just do it. You’ll learn a lot along the way. People will give you lots of advice as to what to take, what not to take, where to go, what machine you’ll need and so on. Some of it is useful and some of it is not.

Just pack up your kit, take half of it out, pack it up again, take another half out and then go.

If you forget something you can buy it on route, people forget that there are shops in Europe.

The only major thing which went wrong on the Turkey & Back under 900? trip was that one of the guys had his passport and money stolen. Other than that their various challenges (or setbacks if you will) were just part of the adventure. So make sure you keep your documents and money safe, that you have breakdown and recovery (you can get temporary AA cover for Europe if you need) then book you ferry and go.

catch up Joby, he did it!!!

but is failing to supply pics damnit!!!

Haha, who resurrected this post?

rawdred did with three posts about it in the past tense

A Druid from Stonehenge

Where are the pics !

I rode to the south of Italy, some great roads/motorways with cracking bends cut through the mountains, did it flat out all the way for 4000 miles odd on the R6… However after getting banned in France on the R1 a few years ago, I now choose the bendy routes…

Best part was going over Mont Blanc (took a day of riding with the best back drop I’ve ever come across), highly recommend it… Was a day of filtering past the cars without out falling off the bike whilst taking the views in… Will do it again sometime…

My cousin is a local city police officer in Italy, the fines he gives out for a loud can is around 400 euros these days, however I had no trouble out there at all… Even had police follow us put their lights on and waved us to go quicker!!! Thought it was a trap but no… just a passionate bike fan… you often get pulled just for a chat and to check out your bike!!!

Have fun out there, we had 42 degrees in Rome in August, touch hot for leathers, warm breeze @ 100MPH… This years been much more milder though…
