London/Essex - Best place for getting leathers

It’s time to get some leathers instead of using my textiles all summer (and I need them for trackdays)

I’d like to try on a few brands to see what fits my shape (if anyone does!!).

Can anyone recommend who’s got a good selection? Ideally closeish to the City or towards the Herts/Essex border.

Cheers

try harpers on the A13 on the way towards southend its on the left just before a bike shop on the right, very easy to spot they will make you a leather suit if you have the cash in your own design/colour choice

J and S, in Greenwich. Excellent selection of leathers. Lot’s of different style’s and makes!

Depends where in Herts you are - J&S also have one just South of Watford with a large selection. Not far from M1 jnc 5

There’s also a branch of Harpers in Forest Gate if that’s any easier for you.

I went there the other day and bought a jacket - friendly knowledgable staff. They also do custome leathers for <600 quid which is very appealing

9 lives in guldford are very good full custom suit for £800

Their phone number is (01483) 454441.

Just had a mission with this, trying to find a one piece suit in London is a nightmare. However J&S a couple of miles down the A3 from Putney was eventually my salvation, big range, good service - speak to Alex upstairs.

Just don’t expect much Alpinstars stuff anywhere unless you’re a rare size that hasn’t already been used up - it seems Alpinestars are unable to keep any of their dealers in stock.

Cheers guys

I’ve also found that Alpinestars can’t supply the stock. My local dealer’s been waiting since march for Track pants in a certain size.

I went to Harpers in Forest Gate tonight and tried some gear on.

I’ve either made a mistake or found nirvana! I tried on a Wolf Kangaroo 2 piece. So very very comfy. Actually they didn’t have the right jacket size but the weight and flexibility are unlike any others I’ve found.

Not cheap but actually not too much more than a decent set -> +£100

Hmmmm ponder ponder.

I think a trip to Greenwich is worth doing and maybe even down to Leigh on Sea.

Thank again for your comments

Pole Position in Westcliff-on-Sea (Southend) are selling off their leathers to make room for more textiles.

Might be able to get a bargain.

big thumbs up from me for harpers of forest gate ,always helpfull and friendly, and they have some good stock in too!

+1 for Harpers in Forest Gate. Got my Wolf one piece custom made for 550. Good friendly knowledgeable service too.

Cissbury leathers near worthing is worth a visit if you want nice italian stuff, spyke, alpinestar etc…

Look up ‘feridax’ on the web, they are on ebay aswell, they are the importers for alot of the big names to the uk. I bought my clover suit from them last year for less than £400.

Went in harpers myself yesterday scooped up a custom fit an customised colour wolf two piece for 500 bar two week wait but worth it geezer know he’s stuff even had me sitting out on the bike to suss out the fit in situ so two speak top fella.

i popped in there the other week to pick up a paddock stand, as i was leaving i remembered i need some chammys…the fella chucked 'em in for free:D top man, hes got my custom for a while:D

I wouldn’t recommend Cissbury myself…

Still waiting for a rain over suit ordered over a month ago…Bad customer service not ringing back 3 times after promising they would…Now I’ve changed the order to an Arlen Ness suit last Friday and they said it would be with me by Monday latest.

It’s not here…Too top it off, they add VAT to postage which as far as I’m aware, shouldn’t be added.

I won’t be shopping with them again

Interesting you say that about cissbury, i visited them about a year ago for a suit and wasnt impressed with the guy that served me, they have always been very good so i gave them the bebefit of the doubt and put it down to one bad egg…

Went to J & S in Greenwich this morning.

Very helpful and I tried on two peice sets and mix and match from various manufacturers.

I’m either a weird shape or Alpinestars use weird manakins! I needed a jacket one size larger than my chest size and pants 1 size smaller. No wonder a two peice set didn’t work! Either then the pants were not a good cut for me.

Arlon Ness and Berick were better but they didn’t have anything that I liked.

I tried a few other brands and we also discussed Frank Thomas

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll return to Harpers as they’re due more Wolf gear in so hopefully will have my size jacket. I don’t think I’m gonna be happy in anything else. It seems once you’ve tried on a 'roo suit, it’s hard not to love it!

Cool, that Roo stuff is very light aint it, its been around for while now, we’d of heard if it was crap…

ive tried lots of suits on, they all seem to come up diffrently dont they, some just dont fit at all well… Lots of places wont mix and match trousers/top etc so very handy if they will…
