Tad bit ambitous for someone who hasn’t been riding for very long… But the car just was not an option this time.
Wondering if anyone has done this trip and can offer any advice. Advice so far is to go up the M11 and then A1M and I believe turn off at Peterborough and follow the A15 the rest of the way up.
Budget has not stretched as far as a Tom Tom just yet…
Not the most inspiring ride but if it is you first long jog then safe and steady is the best way to go plus there are lots of places to stop once you get off the M11.
Exactly the route I take when going up to Cadwell Park. Just watch out for lots of speed cameras up in Lincolnshire, many of the main roads are littered with them, the back roads however, are virtually free of them
Cadwell is just off the A153, South West of Louth. There are some absolutely glorious roads up there, but they can catch you out as well. You tend to get a fair amount of farm traffic, so watch for debris on the roads as well.
From Motorsport Vision site - 'Situated on the A153, 10 miles north of Horncastle and 5 miles south of Louth. If you are approaching from the south, the A153 can be accessed from the A1. ’
Cadwell Park is quite often described as the mini nurburgring. Its probably the most scenic race circuit in the country, and one of the best as well (personal opinion).
I do this exact route at least a couple of times a month and really enjoy the ride. Its awful in a car but on the bike its fantastic! The A1 is probably about the best stretch of motorcycling motorway around (if thats possible) as its not just one long straight road. Instead your ride is broken into a fair few roundabouts (a personal favourite - blasting out the 2nd exit…!), long sweeping curves, slow techie sections and the odd straight fast blast - just watch out for BRIGHT YELLOW Truvelos!. And the A15 is a very nice piece of tarmac indeed. Smooth, well maintained and since its so flat up in the fens, great visibility too. If you get a chance while you are up there try the A16 as well. In fact any of the A roads in that part of the world are well worth a spin.
Schit, wish I was going up there this weekend now!
Oh, and in all the times I have done the ride I have never found a cofee shop en-route. Its more than possible to complete the entire journey on a single tank and the ride is just so involving it would be a pity to spoil it by putting your feet down.
Good luck and enjoy!
