Surrey police are taking no further action over my accident in November…don’t know whether to be relieved or peeved off…I had been overtaking when a non indicating car pulled out in front me.
Some numpty changes lanes / direction without looking or indicating - a lesson for me - just assume everyone is potential idiot - and you won’t go far wrong! Also no overtaking when there is a garage up ahead - potential for cars to swing over without any indication…
Be very peeved off, this is nothing more than a charter for car drivers to drive without due care and or attention, and then to get off scott free after causing mayhem to us the two wheeled user. (Bicycles are included in this rant)
I was literally ran off the road last year and am still suffering with the injuries sustained, and what is going to happen to the lunatic who admitted liability? NOTHING… Its a p*ss take of monumental proportion.

Problem with filtering is its a very grey area legally. Doesn’t mean they can get away with not looking, but if you’re filtering, you’re putting yourself in harms way and the car driver’s lawyer can prove that. The police only send cases that can be prosecuted, otherwise why waste the courts time on a 50/50 count of who was right and who was wrong…
As a biker you have to admit a lot of us do find ourselves in positions where if an idiot does something, we haven’t got an escape route… again, not to say the idiot wasn’t at fault, but if we weren’t in that escape-less position, we wouldn’t have been in any danger would we…
Think that is the one thing that was drummed into me non stop by many when I was learning and I’ve stuck with it - I won’t overtake when there is a junction or anywhere that a car could turn into or out of.

mine was never a 50/50, the idiot turned right into oncoming traffic. i was doing less than 30 but still had no chance of stopping or escaping

It seems you have learned the right lesson, I immediately go on high alert when I see a car pointing in my lane of travel (even, sometimes, when it’s parked) 
Also go on “condition Red” and cover your brakes when you come up on a junction / petrol station that somebody could POTENTIALLY come out of. Better 8 times too many than 1 time too few!
You will develop a good gut feeling for this in time… maybe working for a few months as a dispatch rider will help you develop your reflexes
safest rule, dont overtake by a junction, asking for trouble…no matter the speed. Just got to remember that when I am riding…
The following paragraphs are taken from a post put up in december, does any part of it sound like Im a novice on a bike? I may not be rossi or Stoner but i am no boy racer. I may not be an instructor or a police rider, but I am not a novice either, and I take great exception to the fact that anyone would think that I was partly to blame for what happened to me.
Just as all seems well, you have occasion to notice these headlights again, only this time they are not in your periferral vision they are almost in front of you. F*** !! your brain screams at you as you realise whats taking place. Your brain is now processing information quicker than the speed of light. You envisage an accident taking place, with you as the victim. This car wants to turn right but he’s going to take you with him. S***!! I got to stop you tell yourself as you slam on the brakes.
You feel yourself slide forward in your seat as your front forks compress, you cant go fully as you will lock the front wheel you so pull as hard as you dare. The pedal for the back brake seems to sqeal in pain as you put 14 stone in weight of pressure down to bear on the back wheel in order to counteract locking the front. As the bike levels you put more force into the front brake but all the time your running out of room to manouvre. Decision time, lay it down controlled? lay it down uncontrolled (crash)? Or try and out manouvre this idiot in front of you? As I said… Decision time?
I always maintain that whilst you can predict some drivers actions the ones that cause you serious damage will be the those that seemed so unlikely that you never even thought it was a possibility.
It’s those totally unexpected manoeuvres that catch you out. For me it was a guy pulling a U turn when 2 secs earlier he was parked at the side of the road, no engine running, no indication, just started the car and pulled a U turn in front of me…
Luckily, somehow, I had seen somebody sitting in the driving seat and my brain said “just let off a fraction”, if I hadn’t then I would have smashed into the side of the car instead of being JUST able to stop in time. I don’t even know why I thought of letting off, it was just an unconscious, instinctive action.
