Let's be good to each other out there - whatever 'Tribe' we belong to...

I write this because I’m a member of another forum devoted to a certain make of Supermoto

A recent thread started off as 'Why don’t riders on (**** place another class of motorbike here ****) wave at Supermoto riders??"

But it soon decended into “Those (*******) riders are a bunch of &$%££ - they keep cutting me up / showing off when they can’t even corner their bikes / etc”

Please,

I have been biking a loooong time and I have had ( over the years ) Cruisers, Sportsbikes,Supermotos,Trail bikes, commuters etc - in fact the only class I’ve never had is a bike with a sidecar. Therefore although you can get irritated by other bikers ( especially when they decide to do something showoffy that’s bloody dangerous ) I see ALL bikers as my brothers and sisters.

We all suffer maniac car/van/lorry/ taxi drivers who want to have us off and bust our knees.

We all suffer potholes and loose drain covers

We all suffer prejudice because ‘we are dirty bikers who can’t afford a car’ (!)

We all suffer gatsos, suicidal pedestrians, lack of bike parking, rain, snow, diesel fumes etc etc.

So next time you see a fellow two-wheel -pilot , remember their battles are your battles. There are enough people out there who we have to daily fight against just to get to work.

Have respect, don’t cut anyone up, don’t zoom past - millimeters away from their legs becasue their bike is slower, can’t corner as well, is not what you consider to be a REAL motorcycle etc…

Thanks

Rant over…

Peace man!

Seconded pal…too many people in a hurry these days…deep breaths and count to ten works!!

Yeah same here!

We are all the same - the fact we ride 2 wheels is enough for me!

Ditto, we are in the same boat. Lets all have team hug!!!

Sounds great, but do we really have to include Goldwing owners too ?

Quite right too. I was behind a nice Honda XR this morning and he was making good progress. It would have been easy enough to go past him on the straight, but I would then hold him up in filtering, so I hung back and gave him space to make his manouvers safely. A nice fun ride, also had a Hardley Dangerous try to filter past me, but I was making better progress, so stayed ahead with a small twitch of the throttle (okay I peddled harder!!). He then resorted to using the bus lane to get ahead. Fine by me, not my fine.

I try hard to keep an open mind about other riders, they most likely have way more experience than me, far greater ability and are usually quicker (although I have been having a good run recently on keeping the pace up within my limits).

Not sure about hugs all round, but how about a cease fire??

Amen

And if you don’t wave at me next time, I’ll flip you the bird

here here

Damn right fella, we all love two wheels (and some three), what’s the problem!? I’ll nod at Scooter riders as well if they look like they’re bikers (as opposed to commuters who have no interest in biking).

Some people on two wheeels are idiots, some poeple in cars, lorries, taxis and buses are idiots. Its the way of things.

Prejudices start when some one has a bad experience with one person and they then project that prejudice on to the whole class of people they have pigeeon holed in that class.

If I saw a ped in trouble i’d stop if i saw some on with a tractor, I mean Harley, in trouble i’d stop. Its what biking is all about. I am not sure about hugs all round though.

Good call - even though I’ve only got a CG125 at the mo I feel like Im a member of the biking community! I really enjoy riding to work and once I’ve had this for a year Im upgrading.

I havent seen anyone else on a CG tho wearing a pair of Alpinestars ha ha

Sure thing we all have to look out for one another as two wheeler as general

but i have to add i have had a few bad experiences espciecally with them scooters that r like a cross between a scooter and a custom bike with wide handle bars they tend to block filtring when they can’t themselves go through the gape

so please if pepole would use their head in know which gape can accommodate them and which wont then that will be enogh progress

Well having owned Supermotos for 4 years, I know what you mean To be honest I think there is a lot of fashion victims out there who if you don’t ride the accepted sportsbike ignore you Its not everyone but I noticed moving from my Blade to a KTM I became invisible. Reverse is true moving back to my Z750. Sad really, if your on 2 wheels its all good

Love your group hug

I’ll nod at anything on two wheels, provided it is motorised.

Cheers Weaver, I can feel the love!!!

i must admit to being one of those people who are not fond of supermotos… mainly cos one of them tried to take me off…

but i said before and will say it again - it aint the machine its the person on it…

act like a pratt and u get treated like a pratt…

and before anyone gets upset I aint calling anyone a pratt…

Wasn’t me AbbeyJ honest…

Talking about sterotypes I used to have A Moto Guzzi California yeeeaaars ago.

I once stopped to help a stranded sportsbiker - but he look wary of me the whole time…

He later became a mate ( it turned out he lived nearby )

I asked him why he was so wary back then…

He told me,

“Well you were riding a MG Califonia - thats a gay bike - I thought you were trying to pick me up!!!”

Honestly!!!

PMSL

Heres a few hugs then…

I’ll give anybody a wave, I will… too sociable for my own good
