Leathers or kevlar jeans?

Hey all,
I’m new to biking still have to pass my DAS (9th August)
would like some advice on the pros and cons of Kevlar jeans V leathers.

I’m training at Elite in Wembley with a great instructor called ‘H’
Can’t decide on my first bike. I’ve been recommended either Suzuki SV sport or CBR 600 4i
does anyone have any suggestions?

Personally I prefer leather  but it depends on your personal preference. Bear in mind what will happen to your protective clothing when you’re sliding along on your arse…

Buy an SV 650. I’ve just got one, and it’s great fun - and I’ve been riding a fair few years now, and have owned sports bike in the dim and distant past.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Hello and welcome!

I wore Red Route Kevlar jeans for my DAS course. I couldn’t stretch to leathers, so I reckon they’re the next best thing. The only thing I wish I’d done is get some knee and hip armour - I didn’t have an off, but the peace of mind would’ve been welcome during the wobblier moments.

Best of luck with your course!

:)My opinion- my kevlar jeans are fine for (low speed) commuting esp. in this weather.

+1

Leather inspires more confidence for ‘spirited’ riding…

leather!!!

EM

I use Draggin jeans but am about to buy a leather 2-piece. I will continue using the Draggin jeans for comuting though. It probably gives you less protection but the good thing is that they’re comfortable to wear not on the bike too, so I’m happy taking the bike into town or meeting friends in a pub without sweating in leather etc

+1

Get an SV - i hear the Vtwin massif need all the members they can get!! LOL!!

Welcome to Londonbikers and good luck for your DAS :P:D:)

Just don’t get a black SV - if we’re both on one of them in kevlar jeans, we’ll feel silly! :hehe:

Dare I say it but you’re if you’re really worried about having the same bike (or trousers?) as someone else a black SV might not be the way to go. Great bike though- who cares if every other bod has one!

+1 to the general opinion about Kevlar/ leather.

RE: first bike -
[]SVs only have one pipe coming out of the front of the engine, therefore something is missing :w00t:
Get a Honda Hornet (see below, note the correct amount of pipage) instead![/color]

Please note, the above red text was meant in jest and should be read with this in mind.
Of course, adding this notice above the text would have ruined teh mild sarcasm implied, so it remains below

welcome, go for a honda, more realiable

the cheek!!:D:P

hey dude welcoem to LB, love the name man! kevlar is fine commuting and round down, leathers for when out and on it;)

get an SV, you wont regret it…drowns out IL4’s…Rolling Thunder man…:w00t::cool:

I dunno mate, near the redline my Bandit makes a fair din !

Hi and welcome. Go for a 2 piece leather then you can wear the leather jacket with kevlar lined jeans when you wont to go a little more casual but retain the safety.

yea +1 if im just bimbling round town or to the shops then definitely ma draggins but at high speed they may save ya skin but wont save ya bones…o yea hiya and welcum aboard

Welcome to LB

Leather for me

‘H’ is a top bloke too
