Learner Driver Insurance

As I’ve seen a few people on here are learning to drive at the moment…

I thought I’d post up about Collingwood Insurance who offer comprehensive insurance to drive a car you own or that of a friend or relative (up to group 15), as long as they are accompanied by another driver over 21 who has had their full licence for 3 years.

It costs £82.50 for 28 days cover and can be extended on a 7 to 28 day basis.

With the special offer code of YMCLD offered by Young Marmalade broker, you can knock the 28 day renewal price down to £62.50.

Seems like a good deal if you just need to practice, and are going to buy a car anyway. Can save money on lessons.

Please note: Policies purchased by phone are subject to a £15 administration fee.

Just keep an eye out on the www.askmid.com site though guys. Insurance companies have a tendency not to update the PNC with temp policies, so your car may show up as ‘insurance not held’ on the system which could result in it being seized. If you’re driving, make sure you’re carrying the policy and contact details and if you’re stopped in the evening expect the car to get seized if the Traffic guys aren’t satisfied that you’re insured. You will get the money back for getting your car out of the Pound if the company confirm you’re insured and you’ll not receive points or a fine.

That’s a good tip.

Cheers

I’m paying £63a month for me (with 6NCB) and the missus who is a learner…

if your looking to do this reg you are better off getting insured on one car would probably work out cheaper.

As far as I was able to find out, it’s quite legal for two drivers to hold separate insurances on the same car.

Worked with my daughter on the wife’s car and my daughter started to build her NCB right from the outset. Cost is a bit of an issue, but that’s your choice.

Downside? Despite paper proof, insurance companies have trouble with dealing with a driver with 4 years NCB who’s only held a full licence for 3+ years.
