Larger size pinlock visors

I currently have a clear visor with pinlock, but I find the pinlock a bit low and the top just creeps into my normal line of vision. I want to get a new black visor and fit a pinlock in that as well but try and avoid this issue.

I would presume that the larger insert (031) would give a greater field of view, however I was told by somebody in Infinity that these are not for everyday use as will they mark up with repeated opening and closing of the visor, so they are only designed for limited race use?

Can anyone confirm this one way or the other?

The alternative is to drill the holes myself with a standard pinlock, but just move them about 5-10mm higher, do you think this would cause an issue with the pinlock rubbing on the visor opening?

Has anyone else tried this?

i havent heard that the new max vision is for race only? :ermm:
but i do know that at the moment there are for Arai only…

moving the holes upwards may not be a good idea… as the contact wont be right… i.e. not sealing properly.

you could try fogcity?

I have the larger insert for my Shoei XR1000. It is bigger at the top and I found the top of the insert aligns with the top of the visor. So that when you come to close the visor, it catches the insert and leaves a slight gap. Also, the insert eventually gets marked at the top. It also makes closing the visor a bit more frustrating because the insert is catching on the rubber seal. :ermm:

I eventually gave up with the larger one and went back to using the regular insert. It is nice having that little bit extra view at the top, but the gap it creates allows in extra wind noise, rain (not a lot but it does drip in after a bit).

There was a tip in one of the magazines a while ago saying to cut new notches in edge of the insert so it sits higher on the visor. I haven’t tried it myself as I don’t find the top edge of the insert a problem as I ride a Supermoto but if I was on a more heads down bike I could imagine it being an improvement

I am using the race insert lens because I have faced the same problem with the sight and it is a good solution (only for arai and shoei helmets btw). but it is truth that the race insert lens is scratching up a little bit faster as the usual Pinlock insert lens.

I gave up with the extended pinlock on my RAID II as it prevented the visor sealing (as discussed):hehe: - now have stuck some insulating tape on the visor to stop that irritating blast of sunlight…

+1 didn’t like it, made my face wet letting in water from the top seal, sent to the back of my cupboard.
