After a foiled attempt at stealing my racetruck a week ago, can anyone recommend a good company for this? A deal Ive just been told about is £343 installation plus £10 a month for three years. Thats a web-based system.
Anyone know any for larger vehicles which text you if it is moved, for example? Or where someone phones you if it is moved during a period of time when it is not supposed to be? I would like it to be unobvious that it has a tracker installed and I’m not bothered about ‘fleet management’ (tracking speed of the truck in transit, fuel consumption etc).
I don’t really know about prices on ether web based Telematics or non bike Tracker Networks SVR (Stolen Vehicle Recovery) Systems, having just been on the installation side of my job and not sales.
Tracker Networks (RF based tracking) are Thatcham Cat 5 approved so you will get an insurance discount if that’s what your after?. Other web based systems (GPS/GPRS based tracking) fall under Cat Q, untested Telematics, so you are unlikely to get a discount.
Both systems will do the job although if your after a text/email if a the truck leaves a set area on a map (Geo fencing), web based tracking might be a better option. Both types of tracking have have there pro’s and con’s, neither of which I will go into on a public forum for opsec. Are you planning on taking the truck abroad as well?.

Costs around 99 pounds and fits to the datatool alarm. Its pay as you go or whatever you want actually.
You can also use it as a location devise and check where the vehicle s at any time via the interweb.
It has a sim card and texts you the message telling you what sort of activation has been set off.
Once the alarm has been set off the unit locks up so the signal become stronger and you can track its location via the interweb. This service costs 29 pounds a year for 20 locations.
Could you not just hardwire an old mobile phone with a PAYG sim into the truck somewhere and use one of these interweb phone tracking systems like this one which costs £12 for 20 tracks
I bought a Toad text alert for my bike from a guy on ebay ,it was about £99 new and boxed up and was very easy to fit it has a built in movement sensor so it can be used as a stand alone unit and has a wire to connect to an alarm siren output if you have one ,its got a built in orange sim and all you do is register the sim and put credit on it - it works a treat and i think you can enable some type of tracking system for about £25 a year ,you can text it to enable / disable features and has a service mode for when you leave the vehicle with a garage to be worked on etc ,the guy who sells them is very helpful and as he manufactures the units so knows everything about them- i spoke to orange and they said as long as the sim is used to send a text or phone call within a six month period it will not loose any credit
