LA is very COOL

LB has been here in LA (Hollywood) for a couple of days now. We’ve had the hook-ups, got off the plane, straight to Bel-Air to take in the views, meet a number of riders and even some GDC members (bloody small world!) and some riders who lived in London… We’ve got a couple of 600’s tomorrow and will be going up into the mountains with the locals for some scratchin’.

It’s really good to hear how far the LB name spreads. We’re quite well known over here despite not trying to actively promote here. We must be doing something right!

We’ve had the tours from our Brit-boy host here and man, it’s one seriously COOL city. We both had stereotypes but put them to one side until we experienced it for ourselves and we love it, it’s very diverse, very happy-happy, very clean (you won’t believe how clean, London is skanky compared to this), the roads are crap though, but the cars, my god… We’ve been lucky enough to be driven around in some supercars and even got pulled over by the po-po having some fun in a Porsche Turbo. Must have been Foxy’s demeanor!

Foxy’s telling me she doesn’t want to go home, and to be honest, considering this is their winter and we’re out in t-shirts and loving the weather, I’m starting to feel the same  It’s one big, fun and also scary city. Taking a drive-thru tour of some of the worst off areas we saw countless crack-addicts, then a street later you’re in a major shopping area. Weird.

Oh, also, people drive fast here, much faster than in London. But they’re scary, they’re all on their phones, don’t indicate and change lanes fast, and swerve all over the place. There’s a lot of places where it’s just not safe to ride a bike. London is SERIOUSLY different. We’re very lucky in many respects.

Service is always with a smile here, so many more folks are really happy and pleasant here. I guess it’s the weather, rain and cold gets us down at home. Flip side of the coin is that there’s people always ready to take advantage of your good-nature, but it doesn’t ruin things.

No idea what we’re doing for NYE, but the holiday is going well, really glad to have a break. Got a few ideas for future projects though so running through some research whilst here. Oh, missed our plane and got on the second and was on the plane with Neil Hodgeson as well. Small world considering we have one of his boots at home after our last interview with him hehe.

Pics to come. Not as many as normal as it’s not safe or appropriate to use the camera due to the paparazzi element here. Many places won’t let you in if you have a camera like mine, and some places it’s just not safe due to crime.

well sounds like your having fun!, do take plenty of pics for us to see, i loved america when i visited but was glad to come home eventually.:), Have a great New year!!

sounds like your having a great time:) i went to northern france last year(never been abroad :w00t: )i couldnt belive how clean it was!! even the motorways were spotless! just serves to remind ya how much of a dump london and surrounding really is!:D:Ptho i dont fancy dodging LA cagers buy the sound of their description! lol sound like right headcases!

let us know what the local LA twisties are like! oh yeah!..have GREAT NYE!

jay, try this for fun, dip your toes in the sea, then ride your bike to somewhere in Arizona and see the desert, say Palm Desert, or palm Springs if you must, then drive to one of the mountain ski resorts in Arizona, see the snow and even ski if you have the time, then back to Hollywood and do rodeo drive… all do-able in one day…

Nice one Jay, hope you have some nice pictures to show us.

Mate, pic yourself up a pocket sized Ixus or something… probably about $10 over there compared to rip-off Britain, and seriously you’ll get some great snaps with that.

Have a blast and don’t find yourself featured on a COPS STOP! chase show or anything!

arghhhh soooooo jealous, always wanted to visit the states but never been able too, hope all is going well look forward to seeing sum pics

That sounds like so much fun! … Lucky lucky barstewards!! :D:D

glad your having a good time.

twostrokes idea has gotta be done…

be safe & enjoy

Nice one mate, sounds really crazy in a big ol’ american way over there…although I thought the roads would be in good condition…

Happy new year to you and Foxy…

how weird is hollywood itself tho (not the nice bit up in the hills) - the main strip with the actors hand impressions in the floor is defo on the scuzzy side? Santa Monica is cool - great beach, food etc. all pretty chilled out too

have a great time mate

Sunset Strip gives the impression it’s a happening and nice place to be but is very seedy, Venice Beach is great during the day but a big no no after dark. Santa Monica is very nice in comparison but then that’s because people with money live there and the cops are always about so like any place it’s clean and safe because the people who live there invest in it, nice place to stay and visit though.

Last time I went to the states was back in '98, did a trip from Frisco to Reno to Wendhover (Utah) for Bonneville speed week, then back to LA via Vegas before returning to Frisco to fly home, brilliant 2 1/2 weeks, scenery was great, people very friendly, had a great time but I wouldn’t want to live there.

Enjoy the rest of your trip, nice change from cold, wet and miserable London!

Please don’t base your opinion of the States based on what you see in LA…

Tool had it right…LA is a wicked huge sh$thole…take those 600’s down the coastal highway to San Diego. It’s a GORGEOUS city…MUCH nicer than LA. You want BELIEVE some of the Pacific Ocean Scenic overlooks along the way!

Hey all, happy new year!

Thanks for the tips guys. We’ve got the 600’s now. I’ve got the ZX-6R and Foxy has the GSX-R 600 K7. I wish I had gone for one as well but I thought I would try something different. The ZX-6R is pants, it has NO power at all, even when screaming it. Still, we’re not here to ride flat out on them, we need to be conservative to stay safe and just enjoy exploring the place.

We’ll decide what we’re going to soon on them, we’re getting ready to go out for NYE now. Friend is stressing as he’s just bought us four $175 tickets and his friends have just changed their mind and bought tickets for another party, so much ringing around trying to sell them on. Ouch!

Met some guys that want to race our friends with the fast cars for pink slips, double ouch! Don’t think we’ll be getting involved. We’re on holiday after-all

Weather here is great, caught the sun today. The locals are all wearing fleeces and the like thinking it’s cold. We’re hot! They don’t know how lucky they are with the weather!

It sounds like a wicked holiday you guys are having, not one bit jealous;)

glad to hear you guys are having a ball over there!! Keep on enjoying it, you both deserve a break for all the work you put into the site!

Glad you two are enjoying yourselves.

how great is the weather? :sick:http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_7886803?nclick_check=1
