looking forward to sitting on this at the bike show. I’m guessing KTM are aiming for the most powerful adventure bike

yay, a Mian link that works!! :D:D:D
MCN were showing pics of that last week, it looks blooming massive, definitely a GSA rival. be interesting to see the specs and find out what the range is supposed to be, and also see what it weighs!!!
I thought half the point of a 1200 adventure bike over the smaller ones was to get shaft drive…
Hmmn this beast is starting to grow on me… 30L tank, clearly a mile muncher and not a green-laner, with the snazzy new stability controls… Could make an excellent commuter with occasional trans-continental trips 2-up. Tempted.
this might interest you too then http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news-new-bikes/ktm-1050-adventure-unveiled/25809.html
Two working links in the one thread… how times have changed.
I’ve done you out of a job timmy!
now you can concentrate on maintaining your bike
RE 1050 I wouldn’t go near a brand new KTM engine, or any manuf’s new engine, for at least a year. Huge pity the gap between 690 and now 1050 is still empty.
the engine in that 1050 looks remarkably like a re-bored LC8, out of the 990, if so I am quite intrigued by their mileage and range claims, the 990’s mileage and range is really sh1t. If they have sorted that though then the 1050 looks very attractive, might hang onto the 990 for another year and then take a look at that…
Fixed the link for you.
Out of curiosity the new 1050 is listed as making 95hp. The 990 retired at 115hp, so I’m wondering what that extra 51cc is doing
less fuel, more air? which might explain the range and MPG claims they are making. be interesting to find out, and I’ll bet there is a map that can get you those 20 bhp back, if you don’t mind visiting the pump more often.
means that the bike can be restricted.
And it is a brand new engine. KTM could not make the old LC8 990 engine meet the Euro emission standards which is why all the all the existing 990 engined bikes were canned end of last year. I’d heard rumours of a new litre engine in the pipeline as it could form the basis of a new SMT, but with that power output, I’ll stick with the KTM that I have.
Be interesting to see what they do with it in the near future.
Higher CC, lower BHP = less stressed engine, and lower emissions.
not quite brand new, sort of, a version of the 1190 with a shorter stroke and smaller bore allegedly
“MCN claims their inside sources say the smaller capacity engine is achieved by reducing the bore and stroke of the current KTM 1190 Adventure’s engine. The powerplant will produce less peak power, but maintain good tractability at low RPMs. Power is expected to be just over 100bhp. The bike is designed to be a more affordable, simpler, less aggressive option to the 1190 Adventure.”
Read about that yesterday on a different site. A slimed down version of the 1190 engine. Still it could be an interesting bike have a gander at when the NEC bike show opens.
Hold on, is that a poxy not-21" front end?
All the cool kids have 19" front wheels these days.
