KH400 brakes very odd...

Well just gone to get the KH400 out and tidied up ready for the summer and hopefully this weekend for the Kawasaki day at the ace when I find the front brake is squirting brake fluid out the bleed nipple…hmm never had that before…and yes it is screwed in…very odd, no time tonight so will have to wait until saturday…I love old bikes…

Sounds like the bottom taper of the nipple isn’t seating mate. Unscrew it, clean it up and get a cotton bud down the caliper hole:cool:

How long has the KH been in mothballs mate?

They can corrode too, both the caliper around the bleed nipple and the nipple, I usually change them when they look the slightest bit dodgy, usually only a couple of pounds each.

yes hopes its just that…as I say i have a spare but will bleed the thing anyway…only been off the road since last year…got to fit new indicators though all round…prefer it with indicators rather than sticking your arm out…

its a KH400 the brakes were only ever optional on those :stuck_out_tongue:

yes the early disc brakes were not that good but better than the twin leading shoe of the s3 version…scary stuff on those machines…

Remember the warning stickers on Suzook GT forks?;)

“Caution — braking performance at beginning of the apllication may change with wet brake disc” :w00t:

the normal “cure” is to fit braided hoses and fresh fluid, and sintered brake pads, also clean out the calipers especialy the seal retaining groove, if the problem is still there, it may need an overhaul of the master cylinder.

Yeah that was before the invention of sintered pads though eh?

Cast iron discs were the way to go

found the fault after drying out the garage, the prvious owner had done a botch job threaded the bleed nipple and I guess just stuck it back in with loctite… but I have a new one…wonder if I could not re tap it and see if that works but I doubt it…helicoil will work i guess but think the caliper is basically US,

I don’t think a helicoil would save it mate. The secret is the angled seating at the bottom of the thread. it has to be spot on to be airtight.

One for the skip I’d wager:doze:

going to try and weld it inside and re tap it…may work may not…but as i say i have an alternative caliper…bummer though…
