Can anyone recommend a good product for cleaning white bikes? My bike is suffering a bit at the moment, particularly around the tank where clothing rubs against it.
I normally use muckoff, which is very good at cleaning, but doesn’t quite cut it on stubborn marks.
White paint stains due to crud sticking im micro scratches . Cutting compound will polish it out . But eventually you go through the paint and need a respray .
Baglux do tank protector’s/tank bag mounting in white and you can hit those with the washing up liquid and a nail brush to keep them clean.
Not often I (sort of) disagree with NumNum, but cutting componds are a very bad idea. Buy the Baglux but hit the white shiny bits with a traditional hard wax polish before you fit the thing. Use lots of cloth so you can throw away the bits that lift the muck off.
This advice comes from a bloke that can’t even be ar$ed to wash his bike.
WD40 is a good cleaner, you could try that on your clothing marks, but it wont protect, so you would need a wax polish or as mentioned a tank protector of some sort.
Edit:
Had a bike cleaning session today, I have a Yellow VFR and had some clothing marks on the tank, WD40 made no impression, but MR Sheen did
Also good at cleaning the spots of excess chain oil that get on the bodywork by the seat.
Its not really a disagreement … I did point out the downside of a cutting compound … Respray after a few uses . And I agree that prevention after the cure for the future is the way to go
The yanks I bump into on forums all swear by this product - I haven’t tried it myself yet so I can’t comment, but I’ll probably get around to ordering some at some point:
I have a white bike and after a quick muc-off / rinse, just polish the tank with a bit of Autoglym super resin polish. Brings it back to white just fine.
However, on my other bikes in the past, where my leathers were marking the tank, I applied some of that clear Ventureshield protection film.
You can get tank kits specifically for different bikes. Once its on you don’t really notice it and you can wash and polish bike as normal. If it ever gets marked, peel it off and apply a new layer of film. I found it doesn’t mark as easily as paint.
I’ve currently got some on my gixxer, as again my leathers were rubbing the paint on the plstic side panels.
I have a white bike also , SDOC100 to get rid of the grease and general crud build up , then some ACF50 so the next lot comes off easy and nice quality cloth to polish / mop up the excess ACF 50.
Plus is smells luvverly and does a great job on the plastics and panels.
Oh , and it protects too !
Just be careful when you put in on / use it around brakes / wheels etc.
