just tried to install heted grips

i managed to do the wiring but when it came down to the actuall grips the old ones wont come off i keep trying to unscrew the bar ends but the bar ends r turning with the screw so it wont loosen …any ideas ?

have you tried an impact wrench? Just a guess though. My bar ends froze up and rotated. Impact wrench did the trick, but I guess it depends how your bar ends are put together.

just googled (impact wrench ) it an electric screw driver right ?

Nope, heavy duty screwdriver affair. Fit your bit as normal, but then to get it to work, you give the end of it a moderate wack with a hammer. The spring inside unwinds with more torgue than you can manage with your hand in effect “shocking” the seized parts loose… least that’s how I understand the process anyway…

got it cheers mate ,let u know if it works

If your googling try ‘impact driver’.

However bar ends tend to have a bit that expands in to the hollow bar, to keep it tight pull the bar end away from the bike gentley as you turn the screw.

Sorry for being pedantic :stuck_out_tongue:

They’re called Impact Drivers, but you’re bang on in what they do

Sorry, I just hate the term wrench when Americanised and used for pretty much everything such as spanners, probably even hammers :w00t:

edit BigEd beat me to it.

even women! :w00t:

Could you just clamp the bar-end still with some mole grips and then try undoing the screw?

do you have to take the bar ends off…can you not just spray wd40 under the old grips, that normaly melts the old glue and the grips just pull right off,

+1 any time ive put grips on/off i dont take the barends off

or stanley knife along the length and peel off

all done cheers everybody but now the accelarator is really stiff so i got cruise control aswell until i can be bothered to go gwet some wd 40

could it be that you have pushed the grip too far in…?

probably yeah

wd 40 and wedge it out with a flat screwdriver ?

wd40 and twist it out a bit,

(you prob have done this but) make sure that the clutch doesnt hit the little bump of the heated grip
