thanks for the support chaps, as an update:
I’m negotiating with the Union the possibility of doing the downgraded post on protected earnings, ie. my wage won’t change for 4-5 years so that could be an option. I could then take my time job seeking.
My assistant however has simply lost her job completely and she has been there around 10 years.
As you can imagine morale is not too great there at the moment!
