Just in time

MOT yesterday, got an advisory - 'front pads close to minimum limit [3.2.Alf(i)]

I was going to leave them until the 30,000 service. Thought better of it and pulled them to have a look today, just as well I had a spare set sitting in storage.

Justin in time :w00t:

I remember Adz the mechanic on here serviced a bike that had worn through the pads and was stopping with the pistons . . . :w00t:

He posted some pics of it - pistons were starting to wear down and they had cut a groove into the disc.

Astonishing that anyone would be mechanicaly clueless enough to let that happen

or deaf enough to not hear the screeching

Loads of life left in them!

the left one dont look evenly worn, you may want to scrub down the pistons a bit while you’re at it.

i usually leave mines to that stage too. make full use of them i’ll say

My son achieved that level of mechanical cluelessness.

lol - I was clueless as a teenager as well - I guess we learn most things in life from our mistakes . . .

Could be worse , had a customer brought in a Manta GTE who had fitted new pads himself but the brakes felt funny and were noisy . Took off the wheel , removed calipers , had to look twice , then called over Stevie … who then ran next door to get John , who brought Stuart , and we all stood and looked at someone who could put pads in the wrong way round … all of them , both sides ,friction to pistons , backing plate to discs .
