Jet-Wash - Why did I bother?

I wasted £2 last night using the jet-wash at my local petrol station. I thought damn, my bike is dirty and saw a good amount of foam coming out of the jet-wash when someone else was using it, so gave it a go.

It looked great at the time I washed it, but when it dried, it wasn’t much different and then today it rains all over again! Why did I bother? It’s just going to have to look like a courier’s bike until spring

Unless your a spit and polish person, the only reason for washing a bike this time of year is to get the wax on the paintwork and the ACF50 on the metal bits. Once that’s done.

Once that’s done, stuff it. Pretend your a long distance courier/enduro rider and just the the muck along for the ride. Life’s too short for constant bike washing.

(Exception) If your going to work on the beast, it’s much nicer if it’s aclean beast.

I washed my bike one day and then the next it blooming snowed so all the dirty slush on the road made the bike dirty again.

Last week saw me with enough time to really clean the bike, tooth brush style cleaning. But I did it to put the ACF50 on and to use the Resin Gloss polish. It is filthy now after a wet ride home last night, but I know that underneath the much lies a clean beast ready for springs glorious weather… I’ll clean it once a month, but only if it is really minging and/or it needs a service. Also means I keep an eye on brakes etc…

I use to Gizer the whole bike b4 doing the same.

Gizer in about 5 mins b4 jet wash, leaves shite all over the place after though so make a hasty retreat b4 the bloke in kiosk see’s ya, lol

I’m going to do this organised ACF-50 treatment thing.

When I come to wash my bike (I know I’ll have to at some point), I assume it should just be a flush with cold water, right? Not a Muc-Off and microfibre sponge session?

I don’t want to get rid of the good stuff by accident! Would a jet wash be a bad thing in that respect, too?

What is this national obsession with cleaning bikes? It’s winter (or will be very shortly) if you ride your bike in winter it’s going to get very dirty. Cover the bike with ACF50 or Scotoiler F365 spray, and leave until 1/3/09 when you can wash it all off. Job done. Obviously you may need to wipe the lights clean in the meantime, but anything else is wasting your time in my opinion. Having said that I’ve only managed to wash my SV once since the end of May when I bought it:)

Sorry folks, I’m a sad muppet and love cleaning all my vehicles. Call it my basket weaving if you like, each to their own I say.

Do you want to come down and clean the remains of my bike? And my car?

‘Remains’ are not so much fun, sorry.

Did think of setting up a valeting business once but these cheap drive in drive out places have kinda spoilt all that.

Surely the pieces of the bike will now fit nicely into the dishwasher?

Sadly not. In actual fact not a single piece, apart from the rear brake pedal, broke off! Could still use a wash though:)

Go on, get the Autoglym out.

There’s a lot to be said for getting an old nail for weather like this. When I was a AWB I always had a sh1tty trail bike to take the brunt of the road salt n crap.

Keep your P&J shiney;)

As for ACF50, have you seen Adz’s post? I can’t believe it’s not butter;):D:D:DTalking of Trailie Bikes, Jay, what’s happened to your DRZ mate?

I cleaned my bike once!:exclamation:

I may be a bit twisted - but I think dirty bikes look cool - so long as the mechanicals are in top order I couldn’t give a stuff about cosmetics - you’ll enjoy the bike more this way - believe me!

A dirty bike is a used bike as long as its kept well maintainted whats it matter

i washed these two more than i ever rode them

Luuurrrverrrly CLEAN looking bikes. A clean bike is a happy bike.
