IT council chiefs ditch Sadville after splurging £36k

My mate sent me this and I thought it was joke article - but apparently it’s real . . . The council’s IT staff “rented” an island and built a virtual town hall in the hope of encouraging Tameside locals to access the authority’s services via Second Life.

They also spent more than £6,000 on a virtual museum and another £400 on a “black knight on a horse” statue.

Figures released by the council revealed that Tameside spent a total of £36,665 on the aborted service, which ran from early 2009 to the end of March this year.

Completely insane or what? :w00t:

Should have spent it on the local hospital , could do with it !!

It’s hard to argue against spending cuts when you hear stories like these.
