This evening coming home on the M25/A20 junction, in the rain/drizzle/fog on the slip road from the M25 to the A20 there was a vauxhall Insignia and when it braked, the led centre light and what looked like the LED brake lights flashed out of sync and quite brightly, brighter than expected. By out of sync I mean that whilst the centre brake light was illuminated the brake lights/lights were extinguished. Then vica versa.
I found it really distracting and my passenger was also really distracted by discotheque lights. Was wondering if this was a new feature. It is also a bit worrying that if I was on the bike the shock/distraction and slippery road conditions might have caused me to come off.
This is a new feature and is common on many new models. It only happens when the driver has to brake much harder than normal, probably because they are on the phone or just half a sleep, so allowing the drivers behind to know they are stopping much quicker. You will very rarely see it but when you do it is a bit weird to see.
I know about the brighter brake lights depending on pressure, but i read the OP as normal brake lights when braking, when they go off centre brake light stays on ??
With such powerful brakes, it’s good to see that the Vauxhall warns following drivers of an emergency stop with flashing brake lights and automatic activation of its hazard lamps.
PJ’s on the ball with everything motor orientated.
I did not know about this system PJ… the one i knew about was the higher end car that had increasingly brighter brake lights the harder you pressed the pedal. Good job they are flashing the hazards too or you’d not put 2 + 2 together and come to emergency stop.
I think it’s a good idea.PJ, doesn’t our little Fiesta (we are car twins, well almost, PJ got the boy racer version ) put the hazards on automatically if you slam the brakes on?
A good idea I think…I don’t see them causing anyone to come off??
Flashing light tend to make my heart miss a beat but I’ve never felt inclined to fall off…
Well I found bright red flashing really annoying/distracting especially as its coming off a motorway to a traffic light controlled junction with traffic likely to be stopped.
But more controls to take the brain off line whilst driving.
Huh :ermm: How would this enable to driver to switch off whilst driving? It’s just a flashing light to warn drivers following of sudden braking, can only be a good thing in my eyes. If someone was following the car too closely then they may have an accident but that would happen with or wihtout the flashing lights.
cool i like the sound and way brake lights are going as its scary when your on a motorway start slowing then realise nothing is moving ahead and sharpish braking is needed sure does make your heart beat faster
I bored myself silly a couple of years back reading the “Vehicle (Construction and Use) Regulations” to check for the legality of a similar after market arrangement. They were illegal.
Can we assume the law has changed? Or is this another case of a car “manufacturer” importing stuff without checking?
All sounds like a bunch of confusing messages to me.
