Invisible helmet

http://www.hovding.com/en/

Would you use it if it were legal? They’re on sale for cyclists in Europe already…

I wouldn’t even use it on my bicycle - looks less comfortable & convenient than my helmet. Also, I have been known to fall off without banging my head (especially on the mountain bike) and that would need a new inflateable helmet (or at least to take it to get reset)

I’d be very surpised if an inflatable helmet could pass the necessary tests for motorbike approval and what would stop me getting smacked in the face by bees and flying stone chippings?

In a word, no.

NO!

Expensive gimmick for people who care more about the way they look than they do for their head. Rather spend £50 on a half decent piss pot lid.

There may be a ton of science behind it and it may protect more than a normal cycle helmet but that website has put me right off… feels very poser-y and doesn’t persuade me.

Can’t believe you’re even asking this:ermm:

I would think it would resonate with the target audience (i.e. posers).

Wouldn’t wear that thing because it offers no protection when falling forward, which is at least as likely while on either a motorcycle or a cycle.

I wouldn’t either, way too risky! Helmets aren’t just for falling.

Saw that tested on one of the tv programmes live
Looks impressive, plenty of science behind it, but its def not for motorbike

does this not work like an airbag tho so its only reall good for the first impact?

so if you get hit off like first part of the video its good for you landing on the bonnet but then what if you roll off and then hit your head again is it still as protective then. aswell sometimes you may go over like you falling but get your leg out to save it would it still go off then and you would look like a right fool and also have to by a new one still

unlike airbag its not deflating after impact so will keep you safe all the way during the accident.

I cant find the program l was watching but that was one of the questions - what if it pops out when there is no crash? well apparently its “intelligent” enough to recognize you falling before it opens, so it wont jump out in a middle of the ride.

haha l should be working for those guys  lool l just find it an amazing invention

I’m pretty sure the “balloons” would pop as soon as you slide 20centimetres on the Tarmac! It should also feel weird riding without a helmet!
