Internet surfing

Like all self respecting office workers I like to try and look busy at my desk even when surfing the internet and looking at sites like this!

The trouble is that my desk is in the middle of an open plan office so it’s a bit of a giveaway when somebody looks over your shoulder and sees all the pretty pictures as well as just the text!

My question is whether there is anyway when you look at sites can you make them appear in a text only format on your screen, ie no pics showing to maintain that illusion of hard work?

I use Firefox and tabbed browsing , anytime anyone comes near tab over to work related page

you need a text only browser like lynx or in firefox try this:

Install Chris Pedericks web developer toolbar
http://chrispederick.com/

Restart FF

Select > Options > Persist Features

Select > CSS > Disable styles

Select > Images > Disable Images

Select > Disable > Disable Javascript

enjoy your (almost) text browser

ahh good man +1 lynx

You can also turn off image loading in firefox and IE.

Plus you can get yourself a privacy filter for your screen, which is handy. You could even, as a preposterous example!, play WoW in the office and ppl wont notice unless they come look over your shoulder! :stuck_out_tongue:

I almost got frogmarched out of my last job because I was browsing a site called Red Hot Pawn…:w00t:

get 2 monitors. always have your email open on the left and the internet on the right. that way you’re always working while on the internet

instantly visits Red Hot Pawn

edit - oh, yea. :Wow:

Get a privacy screen

…Or just get on with what you are paid to do;):P:D

Ive been saying this for years. Cut the work week to three days. Prest work life balance restored and everyones happy.
