Interesting article on fall in crime

Interesting article on the fall in crime, though I would like to know stats on theft of motorcycles

I would imagine that the statistics would be done and made to look the way that those giving them out want them too.
Different ways of reporting crime also affects this and it depends on local policy as well.
Is it a true reflection, I’m not so sure.

Interesting how it’s all ‘physical’ crime - nothing on the likes of fraud/online crime which I would suggest is more prevelant or an easier alternative to the likes of burglary.

well they did say victim surveys were used as well as they tend to be a lot more accurate and I assume it would be hard to mess around with homocide rates too much (nor vehicle thefts). Not sure the economist has an agenda in saying that crime has fallen when it hasnt and are more looking at reasons for the apparent fall

I have heard that at times instead of an attempted burglary being recorded that it would be classified as a criminal damage and / or an attempted theft - same as attempted theft of vehicles - recorded as a criminal damage.

Assaults can vary as well, what the law states is an ABH or GBH may be classified as a lesser assault than what it is.

just a couple of ways that the figures may be distorted dependent on local policy etc.

I doubt that the Economist would have an agenda and in no way is this a slight at their report.

Plum, most fraud now isnt even reported to the Police - reported to Action Fraud now.

Its because its too frickin hot to bother doing anything!:hehe::smiley:
