two are offering one for £40

but dont want to spend the money if its not to good

and if its not to good can someone tell me a good one

Sorry but for £40 you are not going to get a product that is going to be worth the money.

For biking you really have only 3 good choices of Intercom

Autocom _ probably have the biggest share of the dealer market and as such have been the first choice for a long time. Are the most expensive.

Starcom - Newish kid on the block and kicked some serious butt against Autocom over the last couple of years, their Starcom Advance is probably the now the best value for money.

Intaride - good functional units

I switched for Autocom to Starcom about three years ago, the main reason for the switch was that I couldn’t get along with the Autocom VOX system and when my 5 year old started going pillion she couldn’t work out the wait before you speak bit that you need to adopt with Autocom. Starcom is full Duplex and always on so fitted our needs better.

Mrs Patch and I now both have Starcom Advances fitted to the VFRs both are linked to bike to bike radios and mine has a bluetooth receiver for the phone and navigation interface.

I have an outocom system - it works well but i am thinking of making the jump to starcom advance when i get my new bike. The Vox can be a bit anoying and also the music level is fixed so if you are doing speed you need the volume turned right up but then when you stop its deafening. But other than that its been fine. for £40 you aren’t going to get much

If you leasten to the LB’s podcast we have a review there on them. Not sure which podcast it is on but is one of the latest ones

yeah i do but its still a pain in the arse having to turn the volume up and down all the time - on the Starcom it adjusts in accordance with the ambient noise level.

Have tested both the autocom and starcom units extensively now for touring use… the outcome is predictable I’m afraid…

Starcom won by a mile - take a listen to episode 6 (week 6) where you can hear autocom and starcom units tested next to each other - you’ll hear the difference immediately.

It came down to 2 points.

Starcom has the best audio quality, and most flexibility, also the units are much more durable (aluminium shells rather than plastic) - and finally the deciding factor for me was their attention to detail… when they wanted to add Bluetooth to their units they made one themselves in a tiny little enclosure that works with everything… even the Tom Tom… Autocom just tried to sell me a nokia ‘in car’ unit that was bigger than the autocom unit!

So there you have it!

Ok so how much is starcom and how much hassle is it to get fitted to your bike?

Fiting - you can do it yourself - it’s just a box - power from a non switched source… so could just run it straight from the battery… but to be honest it’s worth just giving Charley a call and getting him to do it for you - he has a very good rate!

Then you just sit it under your seat or behind a panel - because it’s build well you can sit it nicely without worrying if it’s going to fall apart

m

the only thing to remember is that you need some access to it to adjust the volume levels etc, but i found that they still changed with vibes - so once i re-set them i taped the nobs to keep them held fast.

alot of you have said that it is only £40

so will not be that good

but £40 this is a half price deal

the rrp is £80

see were i am going with this

so how much does a good one cost ??

your going to be looking at about £200 for a decent intercom
