If I have two bikes and they are under seperate policies, and say I have 2 years NCB with one bike and 1 years NCB with the other. Then if I go to a multibike policy, can I say I have 3 years NCB or 2 years?
Basically if I have two policies running at the same time. I’ve got 1 years NCB which i’m using on a bike and I want to get another bike and get a new seperate policy. Then when it comes to renewal next year I’ll get a multibike policy and then I’ll have hopefully 2 years NCB on the R6 and 1 years on the other bike.
the way i understand it is that you start insurance on a bike from 2008 even if you add another bike in 2009 by 2010 you have 2 years (2008-2010) of NCB not 3 (2008-2010 = 2009-2010)
No I have two seperate policies, no multibike at the moment. So I have a policy for my R6 which has 1 years NCB. I will now start a new policy for my other bike which will be completely new and seperate from the R6 and when both policies come up for renewal I will have 2 years NCB on the R6 and 1 years on the new bike. So then at that point if I want to go to a multibike policy will I be able to use only 2 years NCB or 3 years?
I see, so unless the multibike policy is much cheaper then it’s best just keeping the two policies seperate and building NCB individually on both bikes?
You can’t combine the NCD off of both onto one, so you can only say you have 2 years and let the other go to waste.
It’s unfair but that’s the way it is, we’ve lost quite a few years doing it but you have to weigh up the pro’s and con’s of having a multi bike policy or individual ones.
If it is cheaper now would be the best time to have a multi bike policy rather than building NCB on two and having to waste them later on. Imagine how you would feel wasting 5 years NCD
I’d say go with whichever would be the most disappointing… they’re insurance company’s, their job isn’t to give you a better deal, its to make you feel like you’ve been used and abused and then screwed over when they refuse to pay out cos the other guy wasn’t insured, or you mis-spelt a word on your application form, or the claims assesor was having a bad day and just being more obnoxiously unhelpfully scummy than usual
Yes, I HATE insurance, insurance companies and generally the people that work in the insurance industry… you’re worse than criminals you lot!
Its state-sponsored theft. You are legally obliged to buy it, then when you need it most, you do your utmost to avoid using it for fear of losing your no claims bonus and paying extortionately higher premiums next time, or even worse running the risk of not even being able to get the obligatory insurance because there’s a black mark against your name … UTTER BULLSH1T!
As Ang says, you can’t collect NCB on two separate policies. Likewise, if you have 1 yr NCB on the R6 you can’t get insurance for the new bike and tell them you have 1 yr NCB to use for a discount. The NCB can only be on one vehicle you own and you can only increase your NCB on one vehicle which is the one you used the discount on.
A multibike/car policy means you pay full price for the most expensive bike which includes NCB and you get a discount on the 2nd vehicle. Usually these are about 10-30%, sometimes more, but as said, you can’t use NCB on it and you can’t build them up.
A lot of people tend to have the NCB on the expensive bike that sits in the garage through Winter collecting the points, while the kak bike is used and abused and replaced if damaged, stolen etc without claiming. Its about the only way you’ll ever get anything out of the Insurance company…who as mentioned…are legalised thieves.
Basically, once your R6 has 2 yrs NCB and you’ve owned the other bike for a year, you’re only able to claim 2yrs.`
You don’t lose it if you swap it onto an existing policy. You can have lots of policies running concurrently for individual vehicles gaining NCB… BUT…You cannot then join them all onto one policy (multi bike) and expect to use all the individual policies NCB on one.
