I was out on my other bike the CCM and did a stoppie with the old bill behind me, so they gave me a fine and a producer.
I thought nothing of it at the time but later found out that my insurance for the R1 and riding any other bike only works if the other bike is insured by someone else.
As I have had my license just under 2 years I think I might loose it as if you get 6 points or more withiin your first year they
I’d get the bike insured ASAP and hope the officer at your Police station is in a good mood. I’ve had a producer before where the officer at the station said he was happy as long as you came to the station with insurance, they just want everyone legal. I have my fingers crossed for you mate!
Also, if I were you, I’d take the R1 policy down with me as backup. They don’t go away and check the bike’s not owned by you, as far as my experiences have gone.
But i thought that the 6 point rule was for new (i.e under 21’s) road users only, as you have had a car licence for 8 years I am sure that this will not affect you.
Hope it all works out for ya mate. Let me know what happens as I have had my bike licence for about the same time as you and a car licence for 14 years. i have had 3 points too.
Only applies as stated to new drivers - I asked the same question when I passed my bike test 2 years ago having had a car licence for 11 years at the time. Good luck with the insurance producer
hi there…cant mention names but i have a friend who can help you out…get in touch with me at frith tonight and i will introduce him to you …it could be very beneficial to you…
if you get 6 points within the first 2 years of having your bike licence, it doesn matter how old u are or how long you’ve had a car licence, you loose it (unless u know some very nice people ) and point gained while driving a car count on your bike licence too. only just passed, so its uptodate info, good luck
Damn, didn’t know that… good thing I cracked the 2 year period about 6 months ago !.. before that I was still under the illusion of “12 points no more license”… it is 12 points right ?
is that right? i know its kinda your speciality ! but i was told by my school and the examiner its 2 years on the bike licence regardless of how long you’ve had you car licence and its the bike licence you loose (for 2years before you have to go thro the whole cbt das etc again to get you bike licence back) not the car licnece, you’l retain that, but 6 points on either form of transport for any reason within 2 years on getting your full bike licence, and u loose the bike category on your driving licence? ? ? not questioning your knowledge, just querying the info i have been given… (and hoping that you’re right as i have 3 points already and think i got flashed again the other week, am just waiting for that thud on the doorstep…)
I had exactly the same problem … just produce the insurance at the designated Police station … it WILL stand up … they are extremely unlikely to ask for any vehicle specific insurance in this situation.
The same happened to me, and my insurance document was all that was needed.
Cirkey! I’m with Tex - had no idea! I thought I had another 9 points still to go!
But I have just rung the DSA under Porkscratchin’s post and the chap I spoke to confirmed that the probationary period runs from when you obtained your FIRST full licence - so not just your bike licence if you learnt to drive a car before that
Not that I didn’t believe you either Porkscratchin, but as i was so shocked at this news (I only passed my DAS a couple of months ago) I wanted to hear the verdict myself!
