Just tried to add over £100 to the premiums on my renewal due to a modification.
The modification in question?
Engine bars - you know, the things that prevent expensive damage in a bump. They’re not even worth £100 anyway.
Muppets

Thats ridiculous.
but if you land heavily on them, they transfer all the force into a small point on the frame, risking the frame getting bent
Any change from standard spec. seems to get these guys in a flap.
Their answer to all that? Hike the premiums. Like you said, “Muppets”.
I’ve wanted to swap and downsize the engine in a bike from, say, 650cc to 250 cc and see what happens. Anyone one to bet what would happen when the numpties come up with a quote?

Doubled?
Yeah, these things happen from time to time as you get to a certain age.

In then end, I got them to concede that £80 of protective bar can’t possibly increase the quote by £100. I would have just taken them off for the sake of £100
Not mine, the connect together at the front and bolt onto the bike in 2 locations, the crash bars look a lot weaker than the frame so I imagine they’d give long before the frame bent.
