im trying to get as many quotes as I can however I just went onto Devitt insurance and it said “Your motorcycle has not been modified in anyway from the standard manufacturer’s UK model” does this mean they wont insure me if I have a micron can?? Ive got to mention it incase it invalidates the insurance, also getting some nice quotes but none ask if anythings been modified so I have to ring each bloody one to see if it pushes the quote up!
Probably not the best way to go… this can possibly invalidate your insurance claims if you have an accident, regardless of fault.:w00t::w00t:
Best thing to do it to run through the search engines that it’s a factory standard and get the best quote. Ring them up and just ask weather the can would make a difference. That way, you only ring a few companies:D
Normally it wouldn’t (but this is dependant on each insurance company). The insurance compaines are usually looking for performance enhancing stuff, which would effect the quote.:w00t:
I never bother to tell them I have a race can on my bike - just insured my bike again this time went on the bike insurance compare website and got a cracking deal.
dont tell em. its not a mod, cos the engine and performance isnt really effected…
TRUST ME…i had an 05 SV650S courtesy of a BMW pulling out on me it was wrote off, i never told them i had a blueflame can on it, the assesor never mentioned it either, well he did, but only in a good way! he liked the can!
its make fug all diffrence wether you tell them or not
+1 same thing happened with my can on, the insurance company dont know what what and even if they do they never check, not the last two spills ive had anyway.
quite a bit was done to the engine on the SV including the full tit race system and they didnt say jack about it.
You should really tell the insurance company of everything that isn’t factory fitted so that you’re covered otherwise your ins company will just void the policy. Get two quotes, one for standard parts and one for non factory parts…the price is usually the same.
Or, get the ins for standard bike, then a month or so down the line tell em you needed a replacement zorst as the standard one was damaged/knackered and all you could afford was the one your ‘m8’ offered you…"…it ain’t standard though Mr Ins dude, its a micron one but it was cheap and I’ve checked with the mechanic and the bike runs better for it!"… :Whistling:
Not had any bad experiences myself with ins companies but from what I’ve heard from others, some of them will try anything to get out of paying if the blame lands on your doorstep.
If you end up in an accident where your ins company has to pay out costs to the third party and your ins company are clued up to find something non-standard and non-declared on your bike, they may use that to invalidate your insurance cover.
I have no idea if that is the case and am definitely not qualified to give advice on it but I would err on the side of caution myself.
