Insurance farce

I’ve finally come to the opinion that a litre sports bike might not be the best road bike after all (I know, what a shock piece of news)

I mostly blame Rixxy for this and his shiny Monster (I should perhaps rephrase that…)

anyway, decided on a streetfighter 848 and have set about quotes. The conversations have ranged from the amusing, to the ‘how do you feed yourself you muppet’. I just now had a girl telling me I cant get quotes for a new bike because I dont have a chassis number. ‘oh really, so you can only buy 2nd hand vehicles in the uk then?’. Spoke to the manager, she was a dumbass.

Anyway, what is properly fun is my car was stolen last year in the spate of BMW thefts where they discovered a way round the security system. Partly BMW’s fault, partly EU law in allowing ‘independents’ access to purchasing key programming units. Either way, my NCB from my car (10+ years) is deemed irrelevant, but the claim and its ‘substantial’ value is playing havoc with my ability to get insurance

  1. of course its ‘high relative value’, its a car. Its still not that much compared to the value of the cars around the area
  2. what the chuff does the car have to do with the bikes, not to mention i’m already paying through the nose on the insurance for it
  3. if it weren’t for the car theft the premium quoted would be HALF. I’m 35, have 5 years ncb on bikes, over 10 on cars
  4. my current insurer has insured my bikes at my address for years, so that should factor into the risk surely
  5. i’m changing from an r1 which i know is much higher theft risk (although admittedly is worth less)
  6. they are a bunch of 'holes…

so in short not sure if the bike change is gonna happen. thought i’d vent

if anyone has any bright ideas I’d welcome them

Good luck with sorting that! No great ideas here I am afraid. Just pray Ducati are doing an insurance deal to shift new bikes? I know Suzuki used to do it on Gixxers.
I hear what you say about litre bikes. A mate with a gixxer thou borrowed my 750 k7 and now seriously thinking about changing.

Good luck anyway bud.

I know that a lot of places that do these free insurance deals require that the vehicle is garaged when at the property - it’s the main reason I’ve never been able to take them up on such a deal…

ahh yess now that you mention that, it did specify garage at bedtime.
