insurance database?

i got insurance on my bike yesterday
but i need to get tax , and i cant do that until my bike goes on the online insurance database ?
but its still not on there :frowning:
anyone know how long it takes?

i tried to do the same and mine wasnt on there either…

no idea how long it takes… but i know it will be quicker for you to go to the post-office… !

what do you need if you go to the postoffice?

insurance certificate from insurers. They usually post it within a week. If you need it asap they may fax you a copy. A Valid V5 and obviously your driving licence

for you lucky 125ers its only something like £15 for the year anyway… :stuck_out_tongue:

The PO will not accept a faxed copy as far as I remember??

better wait a week then

they emailed me a copy whats a v5?

You need Valid Ins Certificate,
MOT - Don’t forget this as they wont Tax it if it’s over 3 yrs old (the bike) without one,
V5 - Log Book or if just purchased bike the little recpt kept by new owner whilst its being transferred into your name.

You don’t need your driving licence to get Tax

If you’ve been emailed a copy just print it off and don’t say it’s a photocopy… It’s weird as some Brokers just give you a copy anyway and they look exactly the same yet the PO if they know it’s a photocopy won’t give you tax. Just say it’s what your insurers sent you.

they emailed me a copy whats a v5? You are wasting your time going to the PO without the ORIGINAL cover note -they will not accept a fax or an email (or at least not when I tried) V5 is your bike document.

OK some of you might not do it but I have on all occasions especially when it’s days/weeks waiting to receive original copies and I want to ride the bike that day …, I’ve never had any problem Insuring mine with a printed copy off the internet, just keep quiet about it being a photocopy!

If you insure with eBike this is what they do, you get the docs in the post a week or so later but as soon as you’ve paid you get a certificate to print off which works for me :slight_smile:Edit to add that if you’ve taken out insurance through Bennetts then you’ll be waiting a long time, they take 7-10 days to send you a certificate and then there’s only a 50% chance that it’ll be correct.

I have bought tax with a faxed copy of the insurance certificate. Seems to differ in different post offices. If it’s an internet print off you should be ok. if one post office says no, go to another one!!

ok thnx ill try it ,

got sum bike documents in my bag , think ive got the right one…

just need to work out how to get the college printer working because its being stupid

if you have the V5 and your last MOT was within last year or so, you can probably order your tax online here, once you have ordered the tax i think it is OK to ride (just provide evidence of ordering it to cops/appeal)

oops, just re-read your post…it shouldnt take long to gte on the insurance db, if it takes more than a couple of days pester your insurance company

As mentioned before you need:

V5 Logbook or new keeper supplement (provided its within two months of purchase as this is only valid for that amount of time). If you’ve had the bike for more than 2 months and still haven’t received the V5 you’ll need to take your photo licence, proof of purchase and new keeper supplement to a Post Office and fill out a V62. Ask them to give you a copy of it and send the original to DVLA. This is your logbook until the V5 arrives.

You’ll also need a valid MOT if the bike is over 3 yrs old.

Valid Insurance. Some print offs from the computer are pretty good but it depends on the counter staff as to whether they’ll accept it. I’d ask your ins company to send your policy special delivery or tell em to update the MID asap so you can order your tax online.

It can take up to 2 weeks for the Insurance Company to update the info on MID so if you do go out on ya bike, make sure you’re carrying the cover note, a copy of it, or the original certificate until your bike appears on the database. While it isn’t on MID it ain’t on PNC so will flag up on Traffic Officers ANPR systems as they’re linked to it.

V5, Valid MOT and Ins Certificate to get tax from Post Office. Straightforward and quick. Just pay up and ride.

yeh just found my v5 i think…

its a blue and green paper booklet?

thats sounds like it, should have all the bikes details in it and the registered keepers name & address

How do you know it’s not on the insurance database? That free website you check number plates doesn’t always show you the correct information so I was told.

The easy way is to try and tax the vehicle online - if it rejects it as not being on the insurrance database it isn’t on the insurrance database!

As for how long you bike takes to ge on the database, insurrers do bulk upoads of data on a regular schedule, so it can take a month or more dependiong on how often the insurrer does this. Most majors do it in a fourtnight or so.
