My brand new ER6 is up for its 600 miles service, however its at 850m as I need to get to and from a course and had no other transport
I’ve booked it into Daytona in Ruislip Manor where I bought the bike from and they’ve quoted me £110 for the service.
A couple of questions
Is it bad that i’ve gone over the 600miles? I know they completely change the oil because of all the bits of metal etc.
As this is my first bike, is that a resonable cost for the work they are going to do?
A few forums have mentioned doing the work yourself which seems easy enough as long as the tools are there, however for waranty issues, it’s better to get it done by a dealer.
warrenty void if its not carried out by a VAT registered garage and genuine parts need to be used, id spend the money its worth it in the long run and with regards to the mileage i wouldnt worry too much there is a little leway but get it done soon as.
Depends on what work they will be doing. If it is JUST an oil and filter, that is too much, if it is Oil Filter and other things, then £110 might be reasonable. Ask them.
The fact that you are over a couple of hundred miles isn’t really that important in my opinion.
Bought two new last years model bikes from them (ZX12 & ZZR1400) because they were the cheapest - they even managed to turn that into a chore.
Utter t&s^ers - don’t let them near your bike - get it serviced somewhere else - in fact get it serviced anywhere else.
You can do it yourself as long as you use approved parts and correct oil - keep any receipts - this will not void the warranty. If you need clarification ring Kwak Customer Services.
If you think they will tighten anything or do anything other than the bear minimum oil & filter you will be sorely dissapointed.
Don’t go on too much longer without an oil change - manufacturers tend to put poor quality oil in the bike to aid bedding in during the running in period.
“Don’t go on too much longer without an oil change - manufacturers tend to put poor quality oil in the bike to aid bedding in during the running in period.”
If only that were true it might make some sort of sense for the sub 1K service.
The truth is that most manufacturers use semi or fully synthetic oil which is hopeless for bedding in. These days, early servicing is more about picking up sloppy works in the factory assembly, commonly missed by the p.d.i. that never quite happened.
I’d use a VAT registered independent from choice for this work.
