I don’t pretend to have the first clue about politics and I don’t fall in the category of your typical working, white English man who want the borders closed and all foreigners out!
I lived and worked abroad as a youngster so don’t see an issue of people coming here to work.
But all I get told all the time is about controlling our borders if we leave. Other than that pointless reason what else are the benefits of leaving??
Please don’t quote what you have been told down the pub, I need to know facts.
Out What’s left of Europe to remain in? I don’t like how a bunch of detached individuals in a completely different country try to dictate laws in my country
It’s up to you if you want to complicate things more in order to keep doing absolutely the same things that you are doing now. The UK will loose his decision power and be at other countries mercy, the currency will loose value as wel. The truth is that Europe remains one of your biggest trading partner and what it costs the UK to be part of the EU it’s given back to the UK multiplied by 3.
About EU migrants taking jobs? You currently do not have the qualified workers required to run this country on your own (as in by British born), that is a fact. Why would you want to complicate things more? It just does not make sense.
For me just look at the politicians supporting out. Opportunists, populists and demagogues who are just trying to further their career…
There is plenty of information about why they eu makes sense and there is a lot of trump style argument about why it does not. That’s not to say it’s not overly bureaucratic and a bit corrupt but not much more than the UK itself… the benefits outweigh the risks in this case.
I’m all for going out if it was on a liberal, socialist agenda but to back the neoliberal hawks who would happily cut your allowed holidays and pay to further develop their own lifestyles and friends… nah I’ll pass…
I don’t agree with Cameron but Boris and gove are the biggest c*nts out there who will flip flop over their position to suit whatever they want at the time
IN and old enough to remember the pre Common Market shambles
Neal Mallett made me laugh Re George Bevan’s blogg “I find your arguments to be a little unfair with using research and facts and that. This eu debate is about scary numbers, rhetoric and making stuff up, not facts. Play the game mate.”

National Treasure
I don't really understand why that's getting so much time - it's awful. This is really reminding me of the general election where everybody shouts about how brilliantly unbiased they are and then spews a load of crap masquerading as some sort of argument. There is a big problem in the absence of real persuasion coming from either side (and it doesn't help that this is something of an emotional and personal-priority-driven decision anyway) but every time there's an election it's this huge reminder that the majority of people are incapable either of critical thought or basic research.
What I’m finding particularly frustrating when trying to make an informed, adult and sensible decision is the lack of FACTS about the consequences for either outcome. It seems that both sides are very good at spouting suppositions and possibilities about how the world’s going to end if we don’t vote for them, but I’m finding it almost impossible to hear any definites from them. I guess thats politicians for you, though.
All the headlines seem to be about immigration and “big” business. Where’s the information on what’s doing to happen with our farming subsidies and building on greenbelt land, etc if we leave? All the unsexy concerns that don’t don’t grab the headlines are not getting any coverage, yet they’re going to have an immense impact on how we, as a country, support and maintain ourselves in the future if we do end up leaving.
Firm but fair BRS. We need stuff like this because the majority of the electorate is incapable of understanding a well constructed factual argument let alone processing that information into something resembling intelligence. If I was a gambling man I’d wager George Bevan was the love child of Sarah Millican and Jeremy Paxman, mostly Sarah but a little Jeremy too.
I’m still IN and old enough to remember the pre Common Market shambles. Ted took us in, Harold couldn’t persuade us otherwise and now, in spite of Maggie’s best efforts its all too late to leave.
@Janey Lets hope the position of switching off the lights never makes it in onto the job centre servers
@Marmablade - No worries mate as Dami Im might have said
Good read, cheers.
But I still don’t understand why any business within the EU wouldn’t trade with us if we left. Surely we would still be a valid customer. They wouldn’t cut off their nose to spite their face just cos we wasn’t part of their gang.
