I was waiting at some traffic lights recently thinking that I looked the absolute dogs b’s in that egotistical way that a lot of bikers have - I was sitting on my black ZX7R (dated - but a classic). I was wearing my Roof Daytona lid (Simpson Banditesque with a hint of fighter pilot) and I had my Alpinestars jacket on and was feeling pretty smug until a woman sitting in a car at the lights opposite seemed to be laughing at me.Passing a shop window I glanced at my reflection (more vanity) to see what could possibly be so comical - and I suddenly twigged - the Roof helmet looks bloody ginormous and out of proportion with the rest of me!
I’m averge size and build but I think that Roof only supply the helmet in a single extra large outer shell size (individual head size is catered for by the lining).
The helmet is black and white and I’m convinced it makes me look as if I’ve got a large liquorice allsort for a head - like bertie bassett or something!
Now I know why companies like Arai have different shell sizes (small, medium, large etc) - so that their customers heads look in proportion to their fecking bodies!!!
A pic of a le mans - practically identical to my daytona.
Think that this is like the nodding dog syndrome that you get with anorexics. The head is out of proportion with the rest of the body!
I have the same problem with the Caberg, and when the other riders turn up in their Arai’s I do get jealous, but at the moment, can’t afford a new helmet, so will just have to be anorexic!
Thanks for the suggestions folks - I’m just gonna have to put up with the ridicule and learn to live with having an out of proportion head while on the bike for the forseeable. I’m really tempted to get a Shoei Diabolique and relegate the Roof to Pillion/Winter duties (the Roof is a good winter helmet - warm with no draughts - but it has shite peripheral vision due to visor design - so not great for chopping through traffic/motorway)
This is the Shoei Diabolique - I think the (art) design is great for an off the shelf lid:
Cheers ranksounds!!! I’m seriously thinking of getting one - that’s realy good to know (excessive wind noise can be annoying plus and more importantly detrimental to the hearing) - I usually wear earplugs so hopefully that will minimise the wind noise issue?
Yes John - I find it a bit uncomfortable around the ears and temples - I reckon the best helmet in all repects (protection, noise, comfort, build quality) has to be Arai.
