That MotoGP is dull and then you watch a really boring race…isn’t it time they did something…?
Discuss (including references to 1-make tyre rule, Ducati are just a better bike and everyone else needs to get their act together, Rossi’s just not got his head in it, the focus on money is choking realistic competition, etc.)
I think that today’s Bridgestone 1,2,3 shows that the tyres play maybe too much of a part in MotoGP. WSB has proved that One Make series do work and produce exciting close races.
I wonder if this Italian tax investigation is getting to Valle too much and he just wants to avoid too much limelight at the moment, hence easing off the throttle a bit.
Ducati are obviously on the money this season and Cassey is obviously enjoying his ride very much at the moment. It seems like somehow they stole the march on the Japanese factories this season. Gerry Burgess as good as admitted that Yamaha didn’t hit the ground running at the beginning of the season. I wonder how much this is down to test riders or lack of them? Is Andrew Pitt the man for the job?
i think its all down to tyres.each bike is set up and devoloped for the tyres there using so a yamaha wont run as good on bridgestones.but i think michelin has lost the plot this year and need to pull there finger out.if a rider has no confidence in there tyres there not going to ride fast
BTCC - Every winner gets a weight disadvantage…and its staggered down from through the top few drivers…christ add a 5lb lea dweight to Casey’s wheels and see if he’s as fast as all that. Boy would that shake up the results.
AND - double bonus. MORE sponsorship would come in, cos the lower order riders would be actually appearing in later races as the better riders got progressively more and more weight to carry. This would make the racing better, and the sport richer and the fans happier.
You could also suggest to DORNA that Ducati’s display of Synchronized foot paddling today gave you the idea that riders should push their bikes round the last turn. That way the riders who havent crashed in practice and crippled themselves gain the advantage:)
MotoGP IS dull this season, but I’m pretty sure that if it was Rossi who was running away with the title (again) rather than Stoner then most people woudn’t be complaining!
Sure, in the past there’s been better racing, but I think that this year is only a blip. Now that Michelin have lost their advantage by being unable to make up special tyres overnight for the races I think they will now be using this season to prepare for next season the same as Burgess is saying that Yamaha are doing.
I think that bringing in the single make tyre rule would be a knee-jerk reaction and would probably do more damage than good to the sport in the long term.
However, can anyone explain to me why it was that ONLY Michelin were able to “fly in a tyre the night before the race”. What, was every other tyre manufacturer so thick they hadn’t worked that out for themselves… ?
If Michelin were so sharp why didn’t Bridgestone and Dunlop do the same…BUY A HELICOPTER.
The reason they introduced the tyre rule, was coz everyone else (Bridgestone) complained that the previous rules weren’t fair - so go an change them again after someone else says it’s not fair - not sure that’s cool.
The big 2 (Honda n Yamaha) didn’t have a great bike at beginning of season, Suzuki n Kwak really couldn’t get worse. Recent races have demonstarted that the Bridgestone is a better quality tyre, however it’s also given opportunitues to see different people on the podium - more so than last year. That may boost sponsorship too.
Racing isn’t as exciting as BSB or WSB this season, but won’t last - GP will get more exciting next year, as everyone develops the 880’s and tyres.
Bigger worry is Rossi whinging - suggesting he may leave if he can’t win! What a child - how does he think everyone else has felt for the past 7 years! (last year excluded- due to initial frame and reliability issues with the Yam)
Time to bring some character & more importantly some characters back !
So :
Scrap all the electronic control nonsense & ring back real race bikes that required real riders - ie. the strokers
Introduce mandatory drug & alcohol tests. Tests to be carried out at 03:00 on the night after the race, any riders found to have no traces of recreational drugs &/or sub-silly levels of alcohol in their blood lose all points gained that wekend & start next race from the back of the grid.
Any rider found in his motorhome without at least 3 unclad brolly dollies when the testers turn up - 2 race ban.
Bonus points to be awarded for wrecking of rental cars, stupid practical jokes on the opposition, getting arrested the night before the race & for offending visiting sponsors & dignitaries etc.
The Yamaha just isn’t a competitve package ths year.If the Yam doesn’t improve drastically in 08, then Rossi should go to Kwaka or Suzuki and start winning again.
This from a Yammie fan…
Speaking of knee jerk reactions, the M1’s new pnumatic valve engine…errrm  Not quite ready was it
