with the current financial conditions It got me thinking that our government is the biggest waster of money…I cant see one good reason for ID cards. ID card is meant to prove ones ID. I can prove my ID with my driving license etc so why waste billions of pounds on this piece of plastic. ID card is suppose to root out illegal immigrants here but the government says it does not have the money to deport all the illegals here so why waste all this money on ID cards…I dont get it…
we sort of have them already with the drivers licence…cant see why they dont combine the two…it will be another way to abuse our privacy and to manage our lives…another excuse with which to criminalise the population…
I’ve had to carry an ID card since I was 12 and never had any problem with it.
If you’ve got nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear.
For example, over here, it’s very easy to avoid train fines, as you just give your neighbours name/address, or give your own and then claim it wasn’t you. It works every time, and think if the money wasted like that.
But that won’t change. The ID card law does not require people to carry the card. They will have to provide sufficient info to be identified, as now, and then have to produce the card within a few days. So what people will do is carry a letter nicked from their neighbour’s rubbish bin, produce that if stopped, and their neighbour will end up with a conviction for not producing the card at a Police station within the time limit!
It will change… the tactic they’re using is softly, softly… they’re going to sell the card to the private sector… want cash in the bank… Where’s your ID card… Want to get benefits… Where’s your ID card… etc… Anyhow it’s not the card it’s the database that’s the issue. Many other EU countries have ID card but they’re not tied all the information together about citizens in the same way that the national ID register will.
Plus they’re also going to have to use NI numbers as a basis to save £££ and the DWP has been handing those out like smarties for years, it’s easier to take the tax than prove that someone is entitled to work. **** in - **** out… as they say.
Huge waste of money, wont do anything to prevent terrorism or for that matter fraud… A government should be frightened of it’s people not the other way round… don’t forget Hitler was elected and he did a lovely deal with IBM to work out where all the Jew’s were.
point is i have driving license thats also ID…dont need another plastic
The cyclist who may ruin your motorbike by braking traffic law doesn’t have a driving licence hence can’t be ID-ed.
I agree with the above, there’s no point if you’re not obliged to carry it at all times, and I also agree if they could integrate your driving licence with an ID card it would save space in your wallet.
Now the olympics thats a bloody waste of money
