IAM

A quick survey of LondonBikers. To see which on this survey is the ‘safer’ sex. NO CONDOM JOKES PLEASE…How many Male/Female riders have done either the IAM or RoSPA advanced riding courses

Nope not done any. Should do really …

Not done either and consider myself a lot safer rider than many that have:P

No, but considering it, what in everyones opinion is the better one to take?

+1 (meaning me not you Mo :stuck_out_tongue: )

Done Bikesafe though

+2 - just because you’ve done IAM or ROSPA doesn’t make you safe…

I did I.A.M back in 2005.

Done BCR.

1 Day overtaking course

I heard you failed :P;)

Nope, haven’t done it - but I’m going to try to get myself on a RoSPA course this summer.

hi guys,

i have done the advanced, it does make you a safer faster rider but its only beneficial if you understand it. my hubby is an instructer for the iam. so if your intrested please ask:D

I came back to biking in 1996 after a 10 year break and bought myself a VFR750, not a problem I thought, as I’d had a 650 before. After about a month of riding in a freestyle kind of fashion I realised that if I didn’t get some training, I would end up, injured, crippled or dead, as 1. the bike was way more powerful than anything I’d ridden before 2. Road conditions had deteriorated considerably in the 10 years I’d been off 2 wheels. 3. My road craft was non-existent anyway, having driven cars and vans during that time. So I joined my local I.A.M group, and did the Advanced test, and it has paid off. Okay, doing any kind of training doesn’t make you invincible, and you can’t avoid every determined bad driver out there, but it’s worth getting training to ‘tune-up’ your skills, and believe me, those guys are no slouches, when it comes to ‘making progress’.

yes thats what i say, its one of the best things i ever done. i think people have the wrong impression about advanced or iam. they seem to think its an 0ld mans game. far from it , it is very hard to catch up with them guys. and it does help keep you alive. and it makes riding more enjoyable. if i do 300 miles on my bike i dont feel that worn out because my riding is no effort.:D. if any one fancys doing the advanced i have the contacts. its a great hoot

I’ll agree too, loved doing it. I waited way too long before I done it. It got rid of af them a**e twitching moments and changed them to excitement when I saw the “twisties ahead” sign

Makes you see things well ahead which puts you in a better position to react if something does happen, makes you smoother then naturally faster.

When I got pulled a couple of weeks ago I was actually “complimented” on my riding and overtakes… albeit a little faster than I should be… :w00t: I won’t go into too many details on here tho

Not saying I don’t mess up though, its been a while and could do with a refresher…

im glad that you had good comments on your riding it improves your riding 10 fold. its always good to keep a check on your riding. quiet often i have been sitting behind another bike on a right hand bend and the rider has missed a great overtake because he was in the wrong position. he could have taken the car or cars on the bend. they dont seem to move in there lane.

As a newbie, I’m looking at this as something to be done sooner rather than later.

The reason for the survey is simples. I’m getting the impression from various threads on here that more lady riders have grasped this nettle than men. At time of posting it’s neck and neck.

i hear a lot of men saying i have to many bad habits to do the advanced. rubbish!!!

How many nuns are these blokes talking about? (sorry couldn’t resist it)

:D:D:D:D :hehe:

Not done either, but something I always thought about doing. But being a typicaly lazy 4rse, I have not got round to pulling the finger out and getting on a course. Out of interest, what’s the cost of these?
