I want to move out of London! Where?

I live not that far from Bracknell. Quite decent value housing stock there and nice location. Lovely villages round the outskirts but pricier. Takes me just over an hour to Waterloo, likewise to Southampton or Oxford.

I must say, I do a 1hr30 > 1h40 commute from Coggeshall (north Essex) to Waterloo and wouldn’t want to do anything more. Working hours gives me a 6:45am start from home and an 8pm return.

I've heard of people commuting by bike from coventry to London me_groovy
I know a chap who comes into London every day from Cheltenham.

Wouldn’t want to do it myself.

It is. He moved from Essex to Ipswich. Works in London.

does he catch the useless train service into Liverpool street

Stratford I think.

Currently living in Epsom and commute into central every day. I wouldn’t recommend it. A lot of bad drivers in the area and congestion with roads laden with traffic lights. My commute could be anywhere from 45 mins to 2hrs each way depending on how many mothers decided to drive their precious darlings into school that morning.
To add to that, if you want to head into central by public transport then you’re looking at around £18 round trip a day on the train.
Its also not that cheap either and finding somewhere for your bike will up the price quite significantly. Don’t think its very safe either, the first week I moved to my new place (house share) we had 3 people enter our house impersonating police officers and casing the place. Surrey police never investigated. Our neighbours over the road were also burgled about 5 months ago.
I’m in the process of finding somewhere thats commutable both on and off the bike. I can handle longer commutes, but the type of commute I currently have from Epsom is just a nightmare.
And after all that…don’t rent in Epsom if you are looking to commute to central. I only moved there for a job in Leatherhead.

I currently commute from Maldon To Putney every day its takes around an hour and 45 mins each way

im lucky in the fact that the company I currently work for pays my petrol & have agreed to pay for tyres

I can commute by train into London the main issue is I live 12 miles from the train station so have to drive or ride to the station
its not an easy commute by public transport on a poorly performing rail franchise

And for those that don’t know … here’s Maldon

Agree it is pretty mental.

The ones that gets me is this relatively new thing of ‘super-commuting’.
These nutters live in France and work in London- they book up flights well in advance, stay in hotels for time to time but spend their weekends on the continent.

I work with loads of those little darlings … all French

Used to work with an english bloke who had moved to Spain and did that… But it can have pitfalls, as the lack of presence in an office makes you vulnerable if they ever decide to make redundancies…

Lots of folk I work with live in or near Reading. I wouldn’t want to bike commute in winter on the m4, but trains etc seem fine.

You go to vietnam to buy parts! your view on what travelling distances are normal is void…

I commute passed Reading and the M4 can be boring or mental depending on time of day.
