I WANT A SUPERMOTO!!!!

MY GOD!!!

The supermoto’s on today’s BCR were awesome, the boys riding them can Fooking ride!! I want one!!!

I am seriously considering chopping my bike in and getting one. I’ve looked on ebay and a Honda CRF450 Is well within my Budget, What they Like?

I want to have the some of what you guys had today

Don’t start Sam. You’re not helping

What were they doing - got any pics/vids?

Does the riding ability automatically come with the bike

I thought sports bikes could corner well, but those guys were taking the corners at speeds like you can’t believe, but never looked like they were ever in any danger, I tried to follow them at the start and very nearly became a BCR Statistic! luckily Sneaky had a Sneaky word in my ear  I was in awe at how those bikes were able to be riden, plus at the end of the day about 10 of them (from another group) went past covered in mud! they had been off roading on them, how much fun must that have been?

My eyes have been opened to the Supermoto world

those roads are perfect for an SM. They will walk all over sport bikes there. Its the weight difference. On any other roads you would probably tire of one asp motorways

Ever since I bought the DRZ400SM, it’s been my preferred ride for anything other than motorway :-). It does spend most of its time on the knobbly wheels and tyres, but I have taken it on the twisties with the SM wheels and it’s excellent - so light and easy to flick around, and glued to the road.

Not been riding it recently since the crash (head-on collision on a green lane, with another DRZ going the other way around a blind bend at 40mph). But it’s almost fully repaired, been working on it today, will get it MOT’d and taxed during the week (currently SORN as tax and MOT ran out just after the crash) and will be on the road again!

Having watched some yt videos I THINK I ALSO WANT A SUPERMOTO!!!

I have been looking at getting a 600 sports like ZX6R/GSXR/CBR/R6 for my new job which will initially involve a daily 16 mile A & B road commute x2.

I know you are impressed with SM on the twisties but what are they like to use for commuting safely on the road?
Is the seating position comfortable?

I think for my commute from Romford to Blackfriars it would be fine, but if I were to have to go on Motorways it would be a bit much. It would certainly make the commute fun!!

I think they come with an upgrade for the devil on your shoulder from L to XXXL so be careful that the fuzz don’t catch you.

Those are some wise words right there

If I was to wet but a big supermoto then it couldn’t be my only bike cause I think that they are proper hooligan bikes always makes you wheelie do silly stuf and blah blah blah you get the point!

So is everyone saying you just can’t be sensible/safe on a SM…?

They don’t make you wheelie, they don’t make you do silly things. You still have control over the throttle and breaks, same as any other bike. They just happen to be an awful lot of fun to ride, very light compared to most bikes, much taller than other bikes in general, well balanced, relatively powerful vs their weight, and very capable overall. They are not particularly comfortable for going fast in a straight line for a long time. They also do not magically make you stupid.

Apart from the riot of course. I’ve heard stories about what that does to George that would turn you white.

I had a diet of supermotos for a while , they are cracking fun and there is every chance I will buy another … However , they ain’t for everyone , you have to get a proper one for proper fun … so that’s a road legal crosser yer looking for …hope you do your own servicing and don’t mind doing it regular . Personally I am on the hunt for a Vor or Husaberg right now … I am selling some bikes to make room for more nonsense  Supernonsense senior and junior is what I need .

I love to tinker, i’m a qualified mechanic so I know my way around an engine. a supermoto sounds right up my street.

I may wait till next year and get it as a toy/2nd bike

Im looking for a CRF too but a 250, looking for something alternative fun off road but haven’t tried it yet. Will yours be purely for road or both? If both let me know if you fancy some green laning or mx :).

SXV looks awesome though, my mate uses road tyres on this bike:

Surprised Ryder hasn’t made an appearance in here yet…

Mine will be for both, i like the idea of having a bike to play on the roads with but then open a gate and go off road and get muddy!!

I was looking at a 250 too but doubt that would be any good for playing with the big boys like yesterday. i was thinking more along the lines of a 450. A bit like this- ebay link

I think yesterday i was all full of excitemnet and just wanted one!! but after having a proper think about it i have decided it needs to be a 2nd Bike as it’s not going to be practical to use for everyday.

Sam- it’d have to be a second bike- I had The KTM 950SM between an 08 Blade and my new S1000RR, and it was a real hooooooooot! its constant play. As an only bike though, it didn’t work for me. Commute is easier on the RR, fuel consumption is better and the occasional seat cover hated it. Mirrors & bars are the same height as transit & Chelsea tractor mirrors in heavy filtering, even if the lane flicking is awesome.

Szymon;."“They don’t make you wheelie, they don’t make you do silly things. You still have control over the throttle and breaks” Thats technically true but it’s almost impossible to control the SM demons in your head. And I hated anything more than 10 minutes on dual carriageway/motorway so you seem to learn all sorts of pretty routes to get everywhere!

Do it, just don’t sell the Gixer first!
