I need the help of NON IT TECHS

Guys,

i have an idea which I think will kick off, however before I start putting money into it I want to get a little feed back, and as you guys have helped me before I’m asking again… So here goes.

Non IT techs only please.

what I want to know is how often do you have problems with your PC’s? how many times have you had to call someone in, or take your PC to someone or how many times have you had to ring £1 a minute helplines and how long you were on the phone…

On this bit I want your honest answers please as I need to get an acurate figure to see if what I want to do will work…

Would you be willing to pay a Cheap subscription if it meant you would get unlimited IT support if no your not willing to pay anything full stop let me know, if yes how much would you be willing to pay a month/quarter/year…

I have to be as vague as possible at the moment as from what I have seen there is nothing like this around so dont want to give away to much to soon… I would be greatful for all your help.

only had the help of techs once when i was trying to install my security suite and the bloke from CA in the USA took over my computer and did it all for me over the phone and it was great…

i could see excatly what he was doing and he sorted it as i’m a putz with computers

i know i have loads of files that should be deleted cos i never use them…or i think i dont…but it seems fine at the mo…

but of course now i have said that…touch wood etc…

as for subscribing i dont feel the need for myself but it could be a good idea for others

I think you should also aim at small businesses that dont employ an IT person full time.

Personally, I dont think I would pay a subscription for home support because my bloke is good at all that stuff.

I’ve had three different Apple Macs at home over the last ten years and nothing has ever gone wrong with any of them apart from the odd system crash on the first two that were running OS 7 to OS 9 over the years.

I’ve been using an iMac for the last 2 years and OS X hasn’t even crashed once which is dead impressive.

So, thankfully, I’ve never had to deal with helplines, returns, etc.

Best of luck with your idea though.

Yer I’m a tech myself and saw or have seen what could be useful to some, but this is what I’m trying to look into my other option was to pay and go so if you have a prob… well I think you get the idea…

I have come across the not being able to open a new IE window before but not the search and print thing…

Where are you at with this so I do not cover the same ground…

+1

Mac are putting IT helpline out of business…

Sorry for all of you how are making a living like this but it is time to go back to school and reconvert and parking attendent… seems that is a job in the rise… :frowning:

Apart from not many people buying Macs, they dont have all the software available that PC’s do and they are *4 expensive compared to a good Dell, who also do 24 hour support which works very well…XP and Vista are the reason for declining service desk calls, they run themselves in most cases…

i run mac’s as well no problems Imac+Powerbook i never buy a PC again

being vague?..Hmmm… i got your whole business idea now, nice one, time to make some money, ill be your competition.

I bought a Dell about 2 years ago, and have never had to call them or get anyone out, and my knowledge of computers is VERY limited, I did manage fo find the on/off button and that’s as far as I go.

If after the guarantee period something major went wrong, I’d chuck it and get another, pc’s are cheap nowadays, and as they are advancing all the time there is no point in paying out for a repair on an outdated pc.
