Quick low down… Sunday i was at work and i had my head in the clouds for some reason… im on loan to gatwick (from Heathrow) and i basiclly check that aircraft are safe to take to the air before they take off… so in a nutshell,i did my walk around,signed the aircraft off…and went on my weiry way… i find out that ive cocked up bad and i cant disclose the details,but i have been suspended from work pending an Investigation…my boss has told me that damage occurd to an Aircraft that has written off an entire engine. now they are in exsess of about 4 million pounds each so i think im looking at an almost possable sacking tomorrow afternoon when the hearing takes place. those who know me know what i do and how i take my job,and how much i love it…im so nervous at the moment i cant describe. so please wish me luck for tomorrow…as theres other factors that may…just may…get me off the hook.i guess it all depends how i conduct myself with the facts at the hearing. i’ll let you know how i get on…so please cross your fingers,legs,and toes at about 3:30pm. cheers guys. smiled:D. ---

Have they been making you do an inordinate amount of extra shifts lately leading to tiredness and a lack on concentration? You got a union rep that can go in with you? Maybe you’ll be bale to argue that it’s managements fault for making you work when you obviously needed a break?!? (and not just a five minute one!) We all know how conscientious you are about your job and how seriously you take the safety of crew and pasengers. cheers timmo…;)…ur a star mate. no union rep as my company don’t recognise them so im going in on me todd dude. as for tiredness…they will make sure that evreything is within the law, so ive no hope there unfortunatley… im wide awake right now with nerves and bubbly guts mate…trying to recall the day(which is a blur)…and still in utter dismay that i could have overlooked somthing that put ppls lives in danger…ffs…i wish this would hurry up. lol… smiled:). ---

As already been said, sorry to hear about all this… if in the absence of being able to take a union rep in with you, can you not take a Supervisor or colleague in with you to make sure that you’re not being put under undue pressure (sounds fluffy but hey!) during any questioning that may go on? Also it’s good to have someone to take notes of what is being said on both sides. So that you stick to the same course of events, why not write out a summary of events, as detailed as you feel you need to be and that way, you’ll stick to exactly what happened and not get side tracked? (does this give the impression I’ve been through the complaints process myself a few times?!) Anyway, enough war and peace from me! Good Luck hun x ---

Damn Shane, that’s not good. Personally I would speak with someone who is familiar with employment law or give ACAS a call they should be able to advised on accepted practice. As others have said make sure that you have a suitable person with you as a witness. Even though you company does not recognise Unions, they cannot stop you bringing a Union rep with you. Keep a record of all conversion that you have with management and HR. Make sure that you have everything in writing from the company. Most of all best of luck. Fingers and toes crossed. ---
