When I got similar symptoms on my 88 slingshot GSXR750 it was electrical, not carbs. In my case it was due to one of the brass connectors in the ignition circuit near to the RHS switchgear breaking. I think they become brittle with age and just break. If I remember correctly the wire in question was the feed to the start button and kill switch. Before it reaches the switchgear the wire splits into 2 with that brass connector. I cut out the bad connector and soldered in a short length of wire to remake the connections.
It ran happily after that.
hey nice gixxer mate, well ive just spotted somthing today that may well be the cause of my problems…
i found that when i put my hand over the carb to have a gander at it ,she perkt up…then had a closer look to find she had spat off a vacume plug…lil gromet thing on top of the carb…so bought one and fitted it…felt alot better i can tell you,and ran alot smother…poor bugger was getting too much air and prob sucking in a little water too…shame.
so now ive just got to fit a new set of four gaskets for the headders as she’s blowing a bit and she should go even quicker…and smother…lord help me!!!
cheers for the tip though…i will invesigate that wire you mentioned as it may cause me problems…thanks for the tip!!!
If the wire isn’t causing a problem then it’s probably best to leave it alone (sleeping dogs and all). My GSXR had a hard life and was past 69000 miles when it was settled in a corner of my garage a few years ago so it might have suffered more than yours.
