some hamfisted oaf before me stripped the thread on one of the clutch cover holes. I’ve read the instructions on the helicoil site http://www.helicoil.com.sg/HeliCoil-Installation-Instructions.shtml and it looks pretty easy/self explainatory. has anyone else does it before? is it really as simple as it looks?
Yes.
nice and helpful Mark as per usual
Yes easy enough to do
Make sure you drill out the old thread “square”
use some form of cutting lubricant when cutting the new larger thread
Make sure you only use the turns of insert that you cut thread for !
Don’t over tighten the NEW bolt yes new bolt or at least use a die to clean the old one
I done thousands but now tend to use Timesert
Dave
ooh thanks for the tip, I’ll look into the timesert
ok the timesert looks brilliant but it’s SO expensive! in a workshop I can see it’d be worth the investment.
it looks like I’ll go for the helicoil then
