I NEED A FAVOUR :)

Hello you lovely people… Im after a MASSIVE favour from someone…

Basically im having trouble getting my bike to start and everything (IMO) is pointing to a faulty starter motor… So I was wondering if anyone had a starter motor that could be connected up that I can borrow?

Im in north london (Angel/Kings cross) I dont mind favour for a favour… Or Il give you some beer tokens

I have a Mk1 Suzuki Bandit 600 (1999 model)

THANKS

have you tried push starting it?

id offer to come and help do it, but im at download festival till monday, possible can after that.

Yes get a mate to push you and dump the clutch in 2nd gear. It may fire up.

YUP… was my 1st solution… it just went “CLUNK”

http://www.banditforum.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=50730.msg516105#msg516105

thats a thread/forum iv been using to try and sort it…

its really strange and temprimentle I really dont know what it is…

And the clunk wasnt it slipping out of gear or that. It sounded a little too violent… I honestly thought a rod or something in the engine had snapped

I don’t have a starter motor but I’d be happy to stop by and have a prod around if that’s any help…

My downfall is I dont have a great knowledge of engines… so finding a problem is the hard part for me… fixing it im not too bad… Although I do lack confidence.

I would be more than happy for any help/knowledge or proding around… Anyone can offer…

But it seems to be a temprimentle pproblem… It started doing it a weak ago, I found a loose earth fixed it back on and it worked… that doesnt seem to be the case now tho… when are you free? I work 9am till 11pm most days, although I will be finishing work at around 3 on friday and hopefully heading to the ace after… when is good for you?

Bloody heck mate, you a chef or something?!?

I know a bit but not a lot… Could drop by Friday and bang my head against it for a bit to see if that’s any help?

Might seem like a stupid question but is the battery on a full charge?

Im a bar supervisor…

So im there from open untill close… It does suck major testicals most of the time but its not too bad…

(Although I used to be a chef)

You are more than welcome too…

I have checked the wiring.

Disconnected the alarm.

Charged the battery.

Replaced the battery.

Whacked the starter motor.

It only seems to do it when left on the side stand for a few hours with a cold engine (so I have noticed) on the mainstand its been fine…

Have you truer bridging the starter motor to check if thats causing the problem as maybe something else…

When you say ‘starter motor’ do you mean the starter solenoid? If so then it should be pretty easy to get/borrow a new one and check it. If it’s the starter motor then that’s a bit more work.

How do I bridge it?

I think its the starter motor. Its the round thing… left hand side under the feul tap

See here:
Starter motor
Starter solenoid(relay)

If it’s the solenoid then to bridge it you put an old screwdriver across the terminals - make sure you’re not holding the metal part!! This bypasses the solenoid sending power direct to the starter motor and the engine should turn over. If it doesn’t then it’s faulty.

Have you checked the sidestand switch? There might be a loose connection there that gets knocked when you put it down/up but doesn’t when the bike’s on the sidestand.

Its something to do with it being on a tilt (when its on the side stand) if the engine goes cold and the bike is at an angle it just clicks. if I bump start it (or attempt to) it clunks… if I leave it on the main stand it will fire up, But now it has trouble idling when warm… Friend said his old yzf done the same thing if he put a full tank of petrol in it, so Weve just drain 2ltrs out… going to head to Borough market and see how it feels…

Yh from the pics I believe starter motor

Bridge it and go from there…

once I arrived at borough market she decided to die once again…

Had a chat with the guys and when I tried to fire her up it was the same story… matt had a quick look. and BOSH! she fired up. Idled. and run fine the whole way home… If I remember correctly he said it was the cluth assembly sticking (But do not quote me) so I am awaiting a PM from him to confirm so I can buy one and hopefully get her running smoothly!

In that case, check your oil level, and from now on always start your bike with the clutch lever pulled in!

Oil is full, only changed the filter 60-70miles ago… clutch lever has to be out when starting as I have a different pivot (for the adjustables)lol.

Could it be sticking because of too much tension on the cable maybe?

Why does the clutch have to be out?

You should always pull the clutch in when starting the bike as the clutch plates can catch together in the cold. And I the bike is on the side stand, the clutch plates will be deprived of oil…

Strange. Usually with Suzukis you have to hold the clutch in otherwise it will not start.
