Hello you lovely people… Im after a MASSIVE favour from someone…
Basically im having trouble getting my bike to start and everything (IMO) is pointing to a faulty starter motor… So I was wondering if anyone had a starter motor that could be connected up that I can borrow?
Im in north london (Angel/Kings cross) I dont mind favour for a favour… Or Il give you some beer tokens
My downfall is I dont have a great knowledge of engines… so finding a problem is the hard part for me… fixing it im not too bad… Although I do lack confidence.
I would be more than happy for any help/knowledge or proding around… Anyone can offer…
But it seems to be a temprimentle pproblem… It started doing it a weak ago, I found a loose earth fixed it back on and it worked… that doesnt seem to be the case now tho… when are you free? I work 9am till 11pm most days, although I will be finishing work at around 3 on friday and hopefully heading to the ace after… when is good for you?
When you say ‘starter motor’ do you mean the starter solenoid? If so then it should be pretty easy to get/borrow a new one and check it. If it’s the starter motor then that’s a bit more work.
If it’s the solenoid then to bridge it you put an old screwdriver across the terminals - make sure you’re not holding the metal part!! This bypasses the solenoid sending power direct to the starter motor and the engine should turn over. If it doesn’t then it’s faulty.
Have you checked the sidestand switch? There might be a loose connection there that gets knocked when you put it down/up but doesn’t when the bike’s on the sidestand.
Its something to do with it being on a tilt (when its on the side stand) if the engine goes cold and the bike is at an angle it just clicks. if I bump start it (or attempt to) it clunks… if I leave it on the main stand it will fire up, But now it has trouble idling when warm… Friend said his old yzf done the same thing if he put a full tank of petrol in it, so Weve just drain 2ltrs out… going to head to Borough market and see how it feels…
once I arrived at borough market she decided to die once again…
Had a chat with the guys and when I tried to fire her up it was the same story… matt had a quick look. and BOSH! she fired up. Idled. and run fine the whole way home… If I remember correctly he said it was the cluth assembly sticking (But do not quote me) so I am awaiting a PM from him to confirm so I can buy one and hopefully get her running smoothly!
You should always pull the clutch in when starting the bike as the clutch plates can catch together in the cold. And I the bike is on the side stand, the clutch plates will be deprived of oil…
